Chapter 675 The Incident of That Year
Matthew answered the phone, his face instantly turning cold. He looked at Michael and said urgently, "Get Maria to track Mary's location right now, and gather the team."
Michael hesitated. "Mr. Montagu, the shareholders' meeting is about to start. If we don't go now..."
"Go, now!" Matthew's urgency was palpable.
He was standing right outside the Montagu Group building. He turned and got into his car, driving off in a specific direction.
The old place!
Painful memories flooded his mind. He and Samuel had once been kidnapped and held in an abandoned factory.
Five days without food or water had left them utterly exhausted.
During those five days, no one from the Montagu family had shown up.
The kidnapper, enraged, had doused the factory floor with gasoline.
When they smelled the pungent smell, they realized they might not make it out alive.
Just when they had lost all hope, they heard police sirens getting closer and closer.
Hope flickered in their eyes!
But the kidnapper, infuriated, set the factory on fire.
At that moment, Samuel somehow managed to untie himself and rushed over to free Matthew.
But his hands were trembling, and Matthew noticed a deep cut on Samuel's wrist.
Matthew's expression was blank. "You're hurt?"
Samuel focused on untying him. "Matthew, it's okay. I'll get you out of here. We'll both be fine."
He remained as gentle and optimistic as ever, even as the flames crept closer. He could still smile.
Matthew watched him in silence.
Suddenly, the kidnapper went berserk, charging at them with a knife and stabbing Samuel in the back!
Just as Samuel freed Matthew's hands.
"Matthew, run! Run!"
Samuel turned and grappled with the kidnapper, his eyes urging Matthew to flee.
Matthew stood up, his body weak from days without food or water.
If he was this weak, how was Samuel managing to hold off the kidnapper?
Matthew glanced around, then grabbed a chair and smashed it over the kidnapper's head!
The kidnapper's head was bleeding, and Matthew seized the moment to grab Samuel's arm. They ran together towards the exit.
Thick smoke billowed around them.
Everything became a blur.
At that moment, a massive beam fell from above.
Suddenly, Matthew snapped back to reality. His eyes turned bloodshot as he floored the gas pedal, speeding ahead.
The memory replayed in his mind: as the beam fell, Samuel had pushed him out of the way, getting trapped underneath.
The fire was closing in.
The police burst in.
Matthew was dragged out by the police, watching helplessly as Samuel was consumed by the flames.
He was in shock, reaching out to grab something, but Samuel's face was swallowed by the fire.
Samuel had died right in front of him.
So, Richard's insistence that Samuel was still alive was deliberate deception!
And now, Mary had been kidnapped.
Same place, same scenario.
The kidnapper from back then was Roy!
Matthew was filled with hatred, realizing he had remembered too late.
After the kidnapping, he had fallen ill upon returning home, suffering from a high fever for days. When he finally woke up, he had forgotten what had happened.
All he remembered was Samuel being engulfed by the flames.
