Chapter 829 Dragging Everyone to Die Together
"Alright, I get it."
Mary gently patted Shirley's hand, trying to calm her down and put the idea to rest for now.
But Shirley was scared out of her mind that Mary might actually go live, so she stuck to her like glue all night.
It wasn't that she was being selfish.
Matthew was a powerful guy with a lot of influence; he could easily squash the heat. Even if people cursed him, it wouldn't bother him much.
But Mary was different.
She had nothing.
She absolutely couldn't be exposed to the public eye.
These internet users could turn on someone in an instant, and Mary, with her gentle nature, would be devastated by online bullying!
Shirley felt heartbroken for her!
The Montagu Group headquarters was brightly lit.
The PR manager brought up the emergency response plan, only to hear heated arguments coming from the office.
Michael stood at the door, took the document, and said, "You can head out now."
The PR manager nodded and left.
Michael glanced at the document, then pushed the door open and walked in.
Inside the office, Finnegan was angrily pounding the table, glaring at Matthew with displeasure.
"Matthew, what the hell is going on? Wasn't this just settled? Why is it flaring up again? Clearly, you can't handle this. I propose we hold a shareholders' meeting to re-elect the CEO!"
Several other executives stood by, their faces grim.
One crisis after another, and now the online sentiment was overwhelmingly against Matthew!
People were cursing Matthew, demanding he release the girl!
Matthew sat in his leather chair, his expression indifferent, looking at the furious executives.
He said calmly, "So, you elect a new CEO, and then what? How do you plan to handle this situation?"
Finnegan's face was stern, "That's not your concern anymore."
Matthew replied, "Let me guess, you'll pin everything on me, announce my resignation, and claim that all the incidents—hitting someone in the hospital, hiding someone's daughter—were my personal actions, unrelated to the Montagu Group, right?"
Finnegan's expression didn't change, but he was shocked inside. He hadn't expected Matthew to spell out their plan so clearly!
That was indeed their plan!
It was the best solution at the moment!
So, the first step was to get Matthew to resign!
Kieran chimed in, "Matthew, it's clear someone is manipulating this situation behind the scenes. Their target might not be the Montagu Group, but you. You can't let your personal issues drag down the entire company. Think about your father; this is his life's work. Can you really bear to see the company destroyed?"
"Yes, I can." Matthew smiled and said, "Your suggestion is great. I'll take the Montagu Group down with me. We'll all go down together."
"You!" Finnegan pointed at him, his face livid, "You're too much! We must hold a shareholders' meeting. The Montagu Group can't be led by someone like you!"
Matthew slowly stood up, the smile fading from his lips, replaced by a cold, intimidating aura.
"A minor public opinion storm has you all jumping around like this. Clearly, you've been living too comfortably for too long, unable to handle any turbulence. Let me make this clear: the Montagu Group is mine. None of you can remove me. Want me to resign? I don't mind taking everyone down with me. If you don't believe me, go ahead and try."
