Chapter 96 I Was Sent to the Police Station by Mrs. Montagu
Laura threw herself into Matthew's arms, "Matthew, what's happening? I'm scared."
Matthew's body tensed for a moment, and he gently pushed her away, holding her arm. "It's probably just a power outage. I'll go check."
But Laura rushed back again, trying to hold onto him, "Don't leave, I'm scared."
The scent of her perfume kept wafting over, lingering around Matthew's nose.
His brows furrowed as he pushed her away again, taking out his phone and turning on the flashlight. "Hold this for me and provide some light."
Laura hesitated but eventually held onto the phone.
Matthew went to the circuit breaker, confirmed it had tripped, and pushed it back up. The room lit up the next moment.
"All good," he said, taking the phone back from her with a calm tone.
Laura bit her lip. Her neckline had slipped a bit lower during the struggle, revealing a hint of cleavage.
However, Matthew seemed oblivious as he walked over to pick up his coat. "It's getting late. I should head back. Rest well," he said.
Laura grabbed his sleeve and pleaded, "Matthew, I'm scared. Can you stay and keep me company?"
Matthew looked at Laura's face, seeing the fear in her eyes, then glanced at her leg.
His breath became heavy and slow.
"Okay," he agreed.
Laura's eyes lit up with joy, and she led him to sit in the living room.
"Matthew, make yourself comfortable. I'll tidy up the room for you. I have a spare room here. I'll make sure you're cozy."
As long as Matthew stayed, who could predict what might happen between them tonight?
Matthew watched her busying herself, his eyes filled with silence.
Soon, Laura got the room ready and smiled, "Matthew, come and have a look."
Matthew got up and walked over.
As Laura followed him into the bedroom, she suddenly hugged him from behind. She called out softly, "Matthew."
Matthew's muscles tensed instantly, "Laura, what are you doing?"
Her voice trembled, "Matthew, I miss you so much. You have no idea how happy I was when I saw you unharmed just then. You're doing well, and that's all that matters."
She held him, pressing his back muscles with her breast.
Men were visual and tactile creatures. Laura couldn't believe that, despite her actions, Matthew would show no reaction!
However, Matthew firmly grabbed her wrist and pushed her away. "Thank you for caring about me," he said coldly. "But, Laura, it's not the right time."
Laura looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes. "Then when is the right time? Why do you keep delaying the divorce? Matthew, have you forgotten what you once said to me?"
Matthew's expression turned slightly colder. His handsome face was deep and enigmatic, with a hint of coolness in his eyes.
Once, he had planned to marry, and then Laura came into his life.
But just as they were about to solidify their relationship, he had a car accident and became a vegetative state.
Before the accident, he had told Laura that he would marry her.
Matthew closed his eyes. "I have never forgotten the promise I made, but now is not the time."
Tears streamed down Laura's face, making her look even more pitiful. She asked again, "If that's the case, then you have to give me something to reassure me, okay?"
Matthew's eyes deepened, and just then, his phone rang. He answered, "Hello?"
Sam's muffled voice came through, "Mr. Montagu, Mrs. Montagu has reported me to the police station."
