Chapter 39 Why Do You Still Look so Proud?
Mary: [Shirley, can you get me the CEO's schedule of the Henry Group?]
Shirley: [I'll try!]
Mary put down her phone and waited quietly.
Inside the CEO's office, Michael briefed Matthew on what had happened and then asked, "Mr. Montagu, should we arrange a meeting with the Henry Group?"
Matthew replied, "No."
Michael paused, "But if this situation isn't handled well, Ms. Smith might lose her job."
After all, the incident occurred under her watch. If she couldn't handle it well or identify the leaker, she would take the fall.
Losing the job would be the least of her worries. If words got out that she was a leaker, she would no longer get hired in this industry.
Matthew focused on the documents on his desk, his expression indifferent and calm. "She can handle it."
His tone was confident, as if he knew Mary very well, and he actually did.
With her personality, she wouldn't let herself be wronged without a fight.
Michael looked at him, feeling a bit conflicted. Matthew was about to divorce Mary, yet he still seemed proud of her.
Around lunch hour, Shirley sent Mary a message.
Shirley: [Found it! Two days later, all the celebrities and dignitaries of Lindwood City would be invited to Ms. Williams's birthday party, including the CEO of the Henry Group."
Shirley: [I'll send you the time and location, but Mary, I couldn't get an invitation.]
Mary: [That's all I need. Dinner's on me!]
Shirley: [Great, I want roasted meat!]
Mary: [No problem!]
Carrie Williams's birthday party was held on a cruise ship. Mary had been paying attention to the news there and found out they were hiring part-time servers. She immediately signed up.
She was trained for two days, and the cruise party began that evening.
Mary took her bag to the changing room to change clothes. When most of the guests had arrived, she returned to the changing room and took out the dress she had prepared in advance.
She was just there to meet someone, so she kept it simple. She wore light makeup, elegant and understated, and a low-key yet elegant black evening gown. Finally, she applied lipstick and then headed out.
By this time, the cruise ship had set sail towards the open sea. The eight-deck ship was brightly lit, with elegantly dressed guests mingling on the deck, glasses clinking everywhere among the elite.
Mary took a glass of champagne from a waiter and started looking for the CEO of the Henry Group, Henry Jones.
However, the cruise ship was so large that she wandered around the deck like a headless chicken. She couldn't afford to miss the opportunity tonight, but where had Henry gone?
She looked around, and the next second, she bumped into someone.
"Sorry, sorry!"
Mary apologized quickly, then turned to see the person she had bumped into, feeling a sense of familiarity.
The man in front of her had stylishly groomed gray hair, a casually mischievous smile on his face, and was dressed in a black suit. However, a few buttons on his collar were undone, giving him a carefree and playful air.
Robert noticed Mary, and a hint of surprise flickered in his eyes. Seeing the unfamiliarity in her eyes, he chuckled, "What? Didn't you recall?"
Mary hesitated, "Have we met?"
Robert said, "That night, you grabbed my earpiece and insisted on drinking with me..."
Mary, hearing this, suddenly remembered something and felt a bit embarrassed, "I'm really sorry, I had too much drink that night, no offense."
