Chapter 556 Escape

Mary remained silent.

Although she had noticed something off between Herman and Shirley last time, hearing Shirley say it out loud still left her speechless.

The development of the situation was traceable.

Herman was paying way too much attention to Shirley, and she wasn't being careful about it.

But now, was it too late to think about leaving?

Mary voiced her concerns.

Shirley leaned in and whispered, "Mary, I've made up my mind. I won't leave by plane or train; I'll take a bus, one that goes through the countryside. As long as I safely leave Lindenwood City, he won't be able to find me."

Mary frowned, "But that's not safe."

Shirley replied, "Do I still need to worry about safety now? Staying in Lindwood City is what's unsafe for me, right? Besides, I'm leaving on a whim; he definitely won't guess when I'm leaving."

Mary still felt uneasy and asked, "What about your job?"

Shirley said, "I quit, and I started sending out resumes today to create an illusion that I'm just looking for a new job."

She had everything planned out, and Mary didn't know what to say for a moment.

Shirley looked at her, "Mary, I said before that I would stay with you, but I have to break that promise. Will you blame me?"

Mary smiled, "Of course not. I've wanted you to leave for a long time; it's just that you wouldn't go."

Shirley hugged her, "But I'll miss you."

Mary said, "We have phones; we can call and video chat. Maybe it won't be long before I come to find you."

Shirley nodded, "Okay, I'll find a scenic town. When you come, we'll open a small restaurant, and you can be the boss."

Mary was amused by her. The atmosphere was very relaxed, but for some reason, an uneasy feeling surfaced in her heart.

She quickly suppressed her thoughts. This was not the time for wild imaginings.

After they finished eating, Shirley said a lot more, her words full of reluctance to part with Mary.

Mary felt a bit helpless, "You were abroad for several months last time. Just think of this as the same."

Shirley leaned on her shoulder, "I'll try."

"But why do I feel like I'm on the run?" Shirley wailed.

Mary was amused by her, "Alright, it's still early. You can take a nap."

Shirley was leaving at dawn, so she needed to rest up.

"Okay, I'll take a nap first." Shirley got up and headed to the guest room.

Mary didn't sleep; instead, she began cooking food for the road

Given Shirley's escape route, it would be hard to find good food. If Herman noticed anything, she couldn't expose herself.

Standing in the kitchen, Mary felt the world was truly absurd.

Matthew was like this, and so was Herman.

Is there no good outcome for getting involved with them?

No.

Shirley will leave.

She will have a good outcome!

Shirley slept until a little past midnight. When she came out of the room yawning, she saw Mary packing.

Shirley asked in confusion, "Mary, what are you doing?"
