Chapter 595 Why Didn't You Invite Me?

Matthew's eyebrows raised slightly, as if he hadn't expected her to catch up. His steps were unhurried, and compared to Mary's rapid breathing and flushed face, his breath was steady, showcasing the benefits of regular exercise. Climbing mountains was no big deal for him.

Mary ignored his gaze and just kept walking forward, occasionally glancing around. The higher she climbed, the more different the scenery became. Mary took out her phone to capture the beautiful views she found and sent them directly to Shirley.

Mary: [I think we should go hiking when we have free time.]

Shirley called immediately, her voice tinged with surprise, "Mary, you never liked outdoor activities. You actually went hiking?"

Mary continued climbing as she spoke, "Yes, I didn't realize it before, but now I do. I'll be going out more often from now on."

Shirley seemed to turn over and laughed, "That's great. You really need to get out more. Otherwise, it's just work and those maddening things all day. Even a robot would be overwhelmed."

Mary was amused by her words and then asked, "Come over to my place tonight? I'll cook for you."

"Sure, that's great!" Shirley agreed.

Mary thought that when Shirley came over, she would talk to Shirley about Herman's upcoming engagement.

This matter could be a big deal, so it definitely couldn't be handled carelessly.

Matthew had been following behind her and suddenly spoke up, "You invited her for dinner, why not invite me?"

Shirley heard Matthew's voice and immediately asked, "What's going on? Are you with Matthew? You two are hiking together?"

Mary responded weakly, "He insisted on dragging me out."

Shirley said, "Now I don't even know what to say."

Mary replied, "You don't need to say anything; just pretend he doesn't exist."

Shirley sighed, "I guess that's all we can do now."

Mary stopped and looked to the side. This time, a large forest of fiery red maple leaves came into view, and a look of amazement flashed in Mary's eyes.

"Let's stop talking, I'll send you a photo." Mary added.

Shirley replied, "Okay, see you later."

After hanging up, Mary took the photo and sent it to her.

Matthew stared at her intently, "Mary, don't you have any gratitude? I brought you here to relax, and you're making good food but not inviting me?"

Mary's cheeks were flushed, and even though she had a stern face, she looked very cute and not intimidating at all.

She said, "I didn't want to come."

Matthew raised an eyebrow, "But did you climb?"

Mary was speechless.

Matthew continued, "I did force you, but your legs are your own. Whether or not to climb was your choice. You could have stayed at the bottom of the mountain."

Mary said, "How can you be so shameless?"

Matthew replied, "You always say that about me. If I don't live up to the name, wouldn't that be unfair?"

Mary tugged at the corner of her mouth and turned to leave.

Matthew followed her unhurriedly, keeping a two-step distance, "Mary, talk to me. Why didn't you invite me?"

Mary said, "Don't you know why?"

Matthew shamelessly and calmly said, "I don't."
