Chapter 649 Can We Wait a Little Longer
Robert's expression was indifferent as he asked, "What's going on?"
Joan cried, "My parents are forcing me to meet with the Adams family to discuss the engagement. I don't want to get engaged. I don't like Herman. I don't want to marry him. Robert, take me away!"
Robert remained nonchalant and said, "How am I supposed to take you away?"
Joan cried even harder, "Robert, no matter what it takes, can you take me away? I don't want to marry Herman. I don't like him!"
Robert lowered his eyes, hiding his emotions, and after a moment, he said, "Alright, send me your location."
"Okay!" Joan replied.
The call ended.
Robert looked up at Mary and said, "I have to go."
Mary nodded, "Alright."
Robert stood up and suddenly leaned closer to her, as if he wanted to say something, but Mary instinctively stepped back, putting some distance between them.
"What's wrong?" She looked at him, puzzled.
This instinctive reaction made Robert's eyes darken a bit. He smiled and patted her head, "Don't worry, I'll help you get the divorce."
A faint feeling of unease crossed Mary's heart, but she nodded, "Okay."
Robert got up and left.
Mary let out a small sigh of relief.
For a moment, she thought Robert was going to do something, but fortunately, he didn't.
When Shirley returned, it was just Mary and the caregiver in the room.
She asked, "Where's Robert?"
Mary said, "He had something to do and left."
Shirley responded, "I bought dinner for three. Now that he's gone, we can't finish it all."
Mary smiled and looked at the caregiver, "Let's have Mrs. Miller join us."
"That works." Shirley nodded and called Mrs. Miller over for dinner.
As evening fell, the last brilliant orange sunset disappeared from the sky.
Mary stood by the window, trying to get used to the feeling in her legs.
Beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
Just as she was about to lose her balance, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, lifting her effortlessly and placing her back on the bed.
Matthew's cold voice came, "Your body isn't ready for such intense adaptation and training. Take it slow."
Mary frowned, "It's none of your business."
Matthew stared at her face and asked, "Are you filing for divorce?"
Mary instinctively looked at him, "How do you know?"
Matthew's eyes grew colder, "So it's true."
Mary said, "Yes, I'm filing for divorce. I don't want to maintain this relationship with you, and I don't want to be entangled with you anymore. It's pointless."
After she finished speaking, she braced herself for Matthew's anger, but he remained silent.
She looked at him, and he finally said, "Alright."
Mary was stunned by her reply.
"But, you need to wait a bit." Matthew stared at her intently, "You know what's happening with the Montagu family, right? If news of our divorce gets out now, it will be very unfavorable for me. Mary, can you wait a little longer?"
"No!" Shirley's voice came as she rushed over and pushed him away, standing protectively in front of Mary, glaring coldly at Matthew.
Shirley added, "Why should we consider you? Have you ever considered Mary? Why should you get everything your way? How can you be so shameless?"
