Chapter 320 Afraid Something Might Happen to You

Sam kept his mouth shut, just doing what he was told.

Mary felt like she was on a rollercoaster of chills and sweats.

She thought she heard voices, but they were all muffled.

Out of nowhere, something bitter was shoved into her mouth, and she spat it out without thinking.

"Mary?" The voice got clearer and kinda familiar.

Mary blinked her eyes open and saw Robert's annoyingly handsome face right in front of her.

She was a bit thrown off. "Robert, what the heck are you doing here?"

Robert frowned. "You passed out. You've got a fever. Take this medicine. I already called the doc."

Mary licked her dry lips. "Thanks."

Robert waved it off. "Don't mention it. But seriously, why'd you pass out? When did you get back?"

Mary's head was pounding. She took the meds, sipped some hot water, and felt a bit better. "Robert, where am I?"

She dodged his question.

Robert's eyes flickered. "My place."

Mary shot up. "I gotta go. I can't stay here."

Matthew had Sam tailing her, knowing wherever she went, and she couldn't risk dragging Robert into this mess.

But Robert pushed her back down. "You've got a fever. Chill out. Once you're better, you can leave. I won't stop you."

Mary frowned. "Robert, I can't get you involved."

Robert flicked her forehead and smirked. "You think I'm scared? Just lie down. The doc will be here soon."

Mary, feeling woozy, was even more grateful. "Thanks."

Robert rolled his eyes. "Stop with the thanks. When you're better, cook me a few meals."

"Deal." Mary agreed and lay back down.

The doc showed up soon, checked Mary out, and gave her some fever meds.

After leaving the room, the doc looked kinda weird.

Robert asked, "How is she?"

The doc said, "She caught a cold. Once the fever's gone, she'll be fine. But she's got some... injuries that need care."

Robert's brow furrowed. "What?"

The doc gave him a funny look. "Mr. Williams, you should be gentler with your wife. Girls can get hurt easily during... you know."

He handed Robert an ointment. "Use this. She'll be fine in a few days."

Robert finally got what the doc was hinting at, and his handsome face darkened.

He went back to the room and saw Mary was already dozing off.

He put the ointment aside, stood by the bed, and watched her for a bit. Finally, he sighed and muttered, "Getting tangled up with him, you're the one getting hurt. Is it worth it?"

Mary didn't hear him; she had already fallen asleep.

At some point, the heavy rain had stopped.

When Mary woke up again, it was daylight. She felt weak and sore all over and coughed a couple of times.

"You're awake? Hungry?" A tired, raspy voice came from beside her.

Mary turned and saw Robert on the couch. His hair was a mess, and he looked exhausted.

She sat up. "Robert, did you stay up all night?"

Robert nodded. "Yeah, kept an eye on you, just in case."

He stared right at her.
