Chapter 370 You'd Better Not Defy Me Again

When Matthew heard that, his face went ice-cold. 'Mary thinks I'd use others to force Mark into submission? Does she really see me like that?' he wondered.

His voice got even frostier. "Mary, you always say I don't trust you, but what about you?"

"What?" Mary was taken aback, but Matthew didn't wait for an answer and hung up on her.

Staring at the disconnected call, Mary blinked, confused. "What does he mean? Is he saying I don't trust him?"

She pressed her lips together, convinced she wasn't wrong. With everything he'd done, when had he ever earned her trust? She smirked, shaking off the thought.

As the sky darkened, the light in the CEO's office was as bright as day, and Matthew's face was grim.

His phone rang. He didn't want to answer at first, but then he reconsidered. When he saw it was Richard calling, his eyes darkened again. "Hello, Dad."

Richard's voice was cold. "Matthew, what's going on? Why haven't you dealt with that thief yet? Just whipping him every day, what's the point?"

Matthew replied, "You told me to handle it, so let me handle it my way."

Richard sneered. "I think you're just considering Mary and don't want to deal with that thief, right?"

Matthew's tone grew colder. "If you don't trust me, take him away yourself."

Richard's voice turned icy. "Matthew, I'm your father. Is this how you talk to me?"

Matthew shot back, "So what?"

"You!" Richard was furious. "Matthew, do you still want to join the Montagu Group or not?"

Matthew sneered. "I'm your only son. If I don't join, who are you going to give it to?"

Richard, however, sneered. "Once Linda gets pregnant, there will be no place for you in the Montagu family. Matthew, you'd better not defy me anymore, or I'll kick you out of the family!"

With that, he hung up.

Matthew tossed his phone aside, his sharp features showing a hint of mockery.

Richard used his status as a father to suppress him. But did Richard act like a father?

Matthew closed his eyes, his expression quickly returning to indifference.

Herman pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing Matthew's cold expression, he asked, "Want a drink?"

Matthew glanced at him. "You really have nothing to do."

Herman sat across from him. "There are people to handle things below. Naturally, I'm free. Do you expect me to investigate personally?"

Matthew gave him a cold look, stood up, and said, "Let's go."

Herman stood up and asked, "What exactly did Laura say to you?"

Matthew's tone was indifferent. "She said she has clues about Samuel."

"Really?" Herman's eyes widened. "Does she really have them?"

Matthew's aura grew even colder. "She wants me to marry her, and then she'll tell me the clues."

Herman sneered. "She used to think she could marry you by relying on her past favors. When that didn't work, she started targeting what you care about most. But what I'm curious about is, how did she find out about Samuel? Who told her?"

They entered the elevator.

Matthew looked at him. "I'm curious too. Why don't you go ask her?"

Herman shook his head. "No way. Just being near her makes me feel sick."
