Chapter 797 Don't Cry, Don't Cry Anymore

Victoria slowly lowered her hand, her eyes clouded with doubt as she looked at Mary.

"Are you for real?"

Seeing Victoria had calmed down, Mary helped her settle back against the headboard. "Yeah, it's true. We're getting divorced soon."

Victoria pressed on, "When's it happening?"

Mary replied, "In a week."

Victoria counted on her fingers, then looked at Mary. "You better not be messing with me. If you are, I'll smack you again!"

Mary sighed, clearly frustrated.

She pulled a chair over, sat down, and looked at Victoria's wrinkled face. "Grandma, do you really not remember me at all?"

Victoria's face was stern. "Why should I? Are you someone special?"

A flicker of sadness crossed Mary's eyes.

Of course, she wasn't special.

So it didn't matter if Victoria remembered her or not.

The room fell silent, and Mary kept her eyes downcast, avoiding Victoria's gaze.

Suddenly, she felt something on her head.

"Don't be sad. Here, take this."

Victoria's voice was awkward. "You better take good care of it. If it breaks, I'll be mad."

She spoke in a childlike tone.

Mary was taken aback and reached up to take the wreath off her head. "Who gave this to you?"

Victoria replied, "I don't know!"

A caregiver walked in and said, "Ms. Smith, this is the wreath you made for Mrs. Montagu back then. She kept it safe all this time. But after she got better, she never mentioned it again, so I put it away. Today, she suddenly asked for it, so I found it, and she's been holding it ever since."

Mary was surprised.

This wreath was the one she had made for her?

She didn't even remember!

Looking closely, though it had been well-preserved, the leaves and flowers had withered, and the wreath was no longer beautiful.

Mary's eyes stung, and her vision blurred with tears.

Victoria looked at her and suddenly reached out to wipe the corner of her eye. "Why are you crying? I won't hit you, okay? Don't cry."

But the more Victoria wiped, the more tears fell, silently streaming down Mary's face like broken pearls.

Through her tears, Mary saw Victoria's face, old and wrinkled, filled with worry and helplessness.

Mary asked, "Can you hug me?"

Victoria immediately opened her arms. "Sure, I'll hug you. No more crying, okay?"

Mary leaned into Victoria's embrace, tears falling.

She rarely let her emotions show, but seeing the wreath today, she couldn't hold back.

Victoria used to be so good to her, but the old Victoria was gone.

Victoria patted her back, comforting her like a child.

"Don't cry, don't cry. Grandma's here."

Mary closed her eyes tightly, forcing herself to calm down.

She pulled away from Victoria and wiped her face just as there was a noise at the door.

Matthew walked in and saw the scene—Mary was crying!

His expression darkened as he looked at Victoria. "Did you give her a hard time?"

Victoria was startled by his intimidating look and momentarily forgot to speak, just staring at him in fear.
