Chapter 658 Bear the Consequences

"Lost?" Matthew sneered, "There's nothing wrong between her and me. Why would the court grant us a divorce?"

Robert said, "Emotional abuse during marriage, does that count as a problem?"

Matthew's handsome eyebrows raised slightly as he looked at Mary and asked, "Have I emotionally abused you?"

Mary pressed her lips together and said nothing.

She had been somewhat worried before.

On the surface, there were no disputes between her and Matthew. Would the court really grant them a divorce?

It seemed a bit far-fetched to cite a lack of affection.

If the other party had made a mistake, perhaps the chances of divorce would be higher.

But how could Matthew allow such a thing to happen?

Matthew looked back at Robert, his tone becoming more hostile, "You found a good lawyer, but everyone has weaknesses. Do you really think he will do his best for you?"

Robert frowned, "What do you mean by that?"

Matthew didn't intend to explain further and looked at Mary again.

"Mary, if you insist on suing, I can't guarantee what the outcome will be. You need to be mentally prepared."

His deep voice carried a threatening undertone, though his words sounded as casual as a comment on the pleasant weather.

Mary frowned and said, "I insist on suing, Matthew. Our marriage is over."

Matthew looked at her deeply and nodded slightly after a long while, "Fine, I'll play along."

He looked as if he were dealing with an unreasonable wife.

Mary felt a familiar sense of helplessness rise within her.

In front of him, she always felt this helpless.

Joey then said, "Mr. Williams, does your lawyer need an assistant? I happen to know a friend who has made quite a name for himself in Diamond Ridge."

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone turned their attention to him.

Shirley asked directly, "Mr. Cooper, what's your friend's name?"

Joey smiled faintly, "Leopold Bell."

Shirley exclaimed, "I know him! He's a top lawyer in Diamond Ridge. He's never lost a case!"

She excitedly grabbed Mary's hand, "If Leopold joins, you'll definitely win!"

Mary was also tempted and asked, "Mr. Cooper, is Mr. Bell approachable?"

Joey smiled, "He's my friend. If I ask him for a favor, he'll be willing to help."

Robert said, "If Mr. Bell is available, then please have him come to Lindwood City."

Joey looked at Mary, seeking her opinion.

With another lawyer joining, Mary's chances of winning would increase!

She was very eager to end her marriage with Matthew!

She moved her lips, about to say something, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw Matthew staring at her.

His gaze was deep and complex, and she couldn't understand his emotions.

Her words got stuck.

Matthew smirked, "Go ahead and agree, but be prepared for the consequences."

Mary immediately frowned and looked at Joey, "Alright, thank you, Mr. Cooper."
