Chapter 833 Transferred Again
Listening to her words, Joey felt a strange discomfort in his heart, but he had a reason for being there.
He paused for a moment and asked, "How are things between you and Matthew?"
Just as she thought!
Mary gave a silent, mocking smile. "Mr. Cooper, I'm really curious. Why do you keep pushing me to divorce Matthew? Shirley is my best friend, my family, but even she hasn't been constantly telling me to leave him."
Joey sighed quietly. His intentions were too obvious, and her question was expected.
"Can we meet?" Joey asked.
"Where?" Mary replied.
She wanted to hear what shameless things Joey could say next. This way, she would have no hope left for the Cooper family.
They arranged to meet at a restaurant at noon.
When Mary arrived, Joey was already there. He had ordered the food and poured her some water. After she took a few sips, he said, "I need to apologize first. I'm sorry."
Mary looked at him calmly. "Why are you apologizing?"
Joey gazed deeply at her and said, "Because I do hope you and Matthew get divorced. He's not right for you."
Mary stared into his eyes but couldn't discern any other emotions.
'You can't say it, can you? You can't say it's for Rebecca, right?'
Mary said, "As you wished, Matthew and I are already divorced. We got the papers this morning. Now, can you tell me where Nora is?"
Joey was stunned. "Really?"
Mary nodded. "Yes."
She then took out the divorce papers. Joey didn't take them, but he could see that Mary wasn't lying.
His emotions were complicated, and he didn't speak for a while.
Mary wasn't in a hurry. She was hungry and started eating while waiting.
After a long pause, Joey finally said, "Nora was taken to a halfway house in the countryside. It's quite secluded, run by people from another city, not very noticeable."
Mary immediately messaged Matthew, informing him of Nora's location.
"Thanks," Mary said to Joey and continued eating.
Joey watched her, having prepared many things to say, but now he couldn't utter a single word.
After a while, he asked, "If you ever need anything, you can always contact me."
"No need," Mary replied, wiping her mouth with a napkin. Her tone was flat. "I really can't trouble you anymore. The cost is too high."
Joey's face darkened. "Mary..."
Mary stood up. "I'm leaving now. Goodbye."
Her distant and cold attitude was evident.
Joey felt a deep discomfort in his heart. He couldn't explain why. Objectively, how long had he known Mary? At most, they were just ordinary friends.
And he wasn't romantically interested in her, not in that way.
But why did he feel so uncomfortable seeing Mary so indifferent?
Joey even felt despicable and shameless.
Matthew sent people to the halfway house in the countryside, but by the time they arrived, Nora had already been moved.
He immediately informed Mary.
Mary was puzzled. "Joey had no reason to lie to me."
Matthew said, "Then someone else must have gotten involved."
