Chapter 347 Do You Really Not Remember?

Mary's face went blank for a sec. She helped him get comfy on the hospital bed and then let go of his hand. "Check out tonight's grub, see if it's your jam."

Mary dropped the convo. No point dragging it out.

Robert's dreamy eyes flickered a bit, and he nodded. "Sure thing."

Mary set up the tiny table, popped open the food box, and laid out the spread.

Lucky for them, no one barged in today.

Robert got to enjoy a chill dinner.

Mary just sat next to him, messing around on her phone now and then.

Out of nowhere, Robert said, "Mary, you don't gotta come tomorrow."

Mary looked puzzled. "Why not?"

Robert said, "I gotta head overseas. No clue when I'll be back. If I could, I'd keep munching on your cooking."

He stared right at her as he spoke.

Mary's long lashes fluttered a bit, and she said, "That's a bummer, but take care of yourself out there."

Robert kept his eyes on her, then looked down a bit. "I will."

Mary gave a small smile. "Guess I'll head out then."

But Robert said, "Why the rush? Let's chat for a bit."

Mary felt like there wasn't much to talk about with him.

But since he asked, it'd be rude to bail.

They were friends now, after all.

Robert looked at her and asked, "That guy been bugging you lately?"

Mary froze for a moment, then shook her head. "Nope."

Seemed like she really hadn't run into Roy again.

Thinking of Roy's scary mug, Mary couldn't help but frown.

Robert pulled out a document and handed it to her. "I got someone to dig into this guy. Check it out."

Mary took it, opened it, and started reading.

Roy was in his forties. Did a ten-year stint in prison and just got out today.

He was in for manslaughter.

Robert looked at her and said slowly, "Know who he killed?"

Mary shook her head.

Robert said, "Samuel Montagu, Matthew's older brother."

Mary didn't recognize the name.

Robert went on, "But I never got why he's gunning for you. After some digging, I found out when he kidnapped two of the Montagu heirs, someone ratted him out. In a rage, he set a fire and killed Samuel, but someone else got saved."

He looked at her and asked, "I think the snitch might've been you. Mary, you really don't remember any of this?"

Mary looked confused.

She tried to think, but nothing came to mind.

"No, I didn't do anything like that," Mary said.

Robert frowned. "Then why's he so hell-bent on offing you?"

Mary was just as puzzled.

If she had ratted out Roy, it'd make sense for him to hate her.

But she had no memory of it!

She didn't remember doing anything like that.

She hadn't even heard of that kidnapping.

Robert said, "Maybe I'm wrong, but you gotta watch your back. He's still on the loose, and that's a big risk."
