Chapter 761 He Agreed

Mary's heart leapt with excitement.

He agreed!

He finally agreed!

This painful, hopeless marriage was finally coming to an end!

Mary tried to contain her excitement, staring at his handsome face. "Are you serious? You're not messing with me?"

Matthew nodded slightly. "I'm serious, Mary. Every time we've talked about divorce, have I ever backed out?"

Then, he looked at her with a half-smile.

Mary was speechless.

She fell silent.

Alright.

It was always she who backed out.

First, there was the issue with Nora, and now Barbara.

But this time, definitely not!

As the saying went, the third time's the charm!

Matthew still held her hand. "Since I said I want to pursue you, I have to show my sincerity. I won't do what you dislike, and I'll double what you like. Mary, when I say I love you, I mean it."

The cracks in Mary's emotional walls seemed to deepen.

She didn't respond to his words.

Just then, her phone rang, and she was immensely grateful for the timely interruption!

She took out her phone and saw it was Shirley.

Shirley's anxious voice came through. "Sweetie, where are you?"

Mary replied, "I went to Lindenville. What's up?"

"You scared me! I thought that jerk Matthew had locked you up." Shirley breathed a huge sigh of relief.

The car was quiet, and Shirley's voice was loud enough for Matthew to hear every word.

Mary silently moved a bit further away from him.

"I'm fine. I just made a quick trip to Lindenville. I'm on my way back now."

Shirley asked, "Why did you suddenly decide to go to Lindenville? Did something happen at the orphanage?"

"Sort of. I'll explain everything when I get back," Mary said.

Shirley responded, "Alright, I'll wait for you."

"Okay."

She hung up the phone.

The previously subtle, ambiguous atmosphere vanished naturally.

Mary moved her hand and said, "It's a bit warm. Can you let go?"

"How about this?" Matthew released her hand but grabbed her index finger instead.

Mary was speechless, thinking, 'How childish he is.'"But I think you should tell your friend to watch her mouth. If she keeps this up, someone will definitely retaliate," Matthew said.

Mary looked at him. "The only one who would retaliate is you."

Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Not necessarily. Her sharp tongue probably offends more than just me. You should tell her to be careful. She wouldn't want to trip and fall into the toilet in the middle of the night."

Mary was speechless.

What a nasty curse!

If Shirley heard this, she'd probably chase Matthew down eight blocks!

By the time they returned to Lindwood City, it was completely dark.

The courthouse was closed, so the divorce would have to wait until tomorrow.

They went straight to Maple Grove Manor.

In the elevator, Matthew was still holding onto her finger, looking reluctant to let go.

Mary felt goosebumps rising all over her skin!

Was Matthew possessed or something?

When the elevator doors opened, she quickly shook off his hand. "You're home!"

Matthew looked at her wistfully. "Want to come in for a drink of water?"

Mary replied, "No, thanks."

If she went in, would she ever come out?

Matthew's face showed a hint of disappointment. "Alright then."

But then he quickly added, "Can I come to your place for a drink of water?"
