Chapter 726 The Day She Resigns Is the Day You Go Bankrupt
Maria sighed, feeling defeated. "I should've seen this coming. You always planned on leaving, didn't you?"
Mary looked down, a faint smile playing on her lips, but she stayed silent.
Taking this job had been a spur-of-the-moment decision for her.
Mary's real goal had always been to move on and live her own life.
"Alright, I need to get the recruitment process going. But after seeing your designs, my standards are higher now. You gotta help out with the interviews."
Mary nodded. "Sure, no problem."
Mary stood up and left the office. As soon as the door closed behind her, Maria quickly dialed Matthew's number.
"Hey, what's up?" Matthew's deep, cold voice came through the phone.
Maria lowered her voice. "It's bad, Matthew. Mary just told me she's quitting!"
Matthew's tone grew even colder. "Did you agree?"
Maria replied, "What choice do I have?"
Matthew replied indifferently, "Then there's no point in keeping this studio open. If she leaves, you shut it down."
With that, Matthew hung up the phone.
"But..." Maria wanted to say more, but the call had already ended, leaving her feeling frustrated.
How infuriating!
How could she stop Mary from quitting?
What could she possibly do?
Maria paced around the office, stomping her feet in frustration.
Matthew really left no room for negotiation. Wasn't he afraid that revealing their relationship would only widen the gap between him and Mary?
But then again, if their relationship soured, her fate might be worse than Sam's.
Thinking about Sam's current situation, Maria shivered involuntarily and decided not to entertain such dangerous thoughts.
She had to try her best to keep Mary.
Mary returned to her desk and began sorting through potential designer candidates.
Before long, there was a knock on the door.
The receptionist brought someone in and soon approached Mary. "Mary, someone wants you to design a house."
Mary was taken aback. Someone specifically asking for her?
She considered herself a small fish in a big pond, with many more talented designers in the industry.
This was the first time someone had specifically requested her.
Matthew didn't count.
Mary got up and went to the meeting room, where she saw a man in a suit holding a briefcase.
"Hi, I'm Mary." Mary introduced herself first.
The man stood up and shook her hand. "Ms. Smith, nice to meet you. I'm Kurt Lowe. I've seen your house designs and I really like them. They're very creative. I recently bought some land and want to build a winery. Here are the details. Do you have any ideas?"
Mary paused for a moment. "I recently..."
"Mr. Lowe, welcome. Ms. Smith has great ideas. Here are our rates. Take your time to look them over."
Maria walked in at that moment, giving Mary a look and briefly reassuring Kurt before stepping out again.
Mary smiled slightly. "I'll be right back."
Once outside the meeting room, Mary asked, "What's up?"
Maria crossed her arms. "Were you about to turn down his project?"
Mary nodded. "Yeah, I won't be here for long. If I take on this project and then leave, he won't be happy. It's better to refuse from the start."
Maria sighed, feeling defeated.
