Chapter 194 You're a Jerk
Mary stood up, ready to leave.
Matthew didn't stop her. Only after she left the dining room did his gaze soften.
The butler then inquired, "Mr. Montagu, those items are in the warehouse. What should we do with them?"
Matthew replied, "Leave them for now."
The butler nodded and stayed silent.
Mary left Montagu Mansion and began the two-mile walk to the remote bus stop.
After walking for about five minutes, she heard a car engine behind her.
A horn blared, and Mary turned to see Matthew's stern face.
"You've been out this long and only made it this far?"
Mary's face darkened. "Are you crazy?"
Matthew sneered, hit the gas, and sped past, leaving Mary alone.
Mary stomped in anger and kept walking.
Just as she neared the bus stop, the car returned. The door opened, and without looking at her, Matthew said, "Get in."
Mary ignored him.
As she walked, Matthew drove alongside her, drawing attention from passersby.
Mary frowned, not wanting to be the center of gossip. Seeing the open passenger door, she opened the back door and got in.
"Go now."
Her tone was cold.
Matthew felt a sharp pain, like a dull knife scraping his heart.
He frowned. "I'm not your chauffeur. Sit in the front."
Mary replied, "No, I'm more comfortable in the back."
She closed her eyes.
Matthew gave her a long look but said nothing. He started the car and drove off.
At a traffic light, Matthew's phone rang. He glanced at it, then answered, "Laura."
Hearing the name, Mary frowned, feeling irritated.
"Okay, I'll come over right now."
Whatever Laura said made Matthew turn the car towards the hospital.
Mary said, "Drop me off here. It's close to the office."
Matthew replied coldly, "You haven't apologized to Laura yet."
Mary's anger flared, "Why should I apologize? I told you, I didn't kidnap her!"
Matthew said, "But all the evidence points to you."
Mary's fingers clenched, her fingertips turning white. She took a deep breath. "Let me out. I'll find the evidence. I will prove I didn't kidnap her."
Matthew stayed silent.
Mary's eyes reddened with anger. "Matthew, you're such a jerk!"
Matthew didn't react. Finally, they reached the hospital parking lot.
After turning off the engine, he looked at her.
Mary's face was still grim. When she saw him looking, she turned away, her eyes cold and disdainful.
Matthew's expression turned cold. He suddenly got out, opened the back door, and climbed in.
"You..."
Startled, Mary instinctively asked what he was doing, but before she could finish, he grabbed her chin and kissed her fiercely.
