Chapter 137 Can a Seven-year-old Child Lie?
Mary grabbed Brenda's wrist, her eyes cold. "I told you, I didn't do it!"
Brenda yanked her hand away. "He's only seven! Are you calling him a liar? As a maid, you're not just rude but vicious, even to a kid!"
Bishop's cries filled the room.
To anyone watching, it looked like Mary was bullying him. Everyone around shot Mary looks of disdain.
She instantly became the target of everyone's scorn.
"What's going on here?" Linda walked in, looking puzzled.
Brenda pointed at Mary. "Is this your maid? I asked her to get my bag, and she ignored me. Then she hit my grandson. Look at him! She's so cruel, picking on a child!"
Linda looked surprised. She frowned at Bishop. "Don't cry; look what I have. It's candy." She handed him a lollipop.
Bishop took it. "Thank you."
"Good boy." Linda smiled, then turned to Mary. "Mary, he's just a kid. Why argue with him? Just apologize and get it over with, okay?"
Linda smiled politely but didn't clarify Mary's identity, siding with Brenda.
Mary couldn't believe it. "Mrs. Montagu, I didn't hit him. He sat down on his own."
"He's so young; how could he lie about you?" Linda replied.
Mary felt a suffocating pressure and stared at Linda.
Despite Linda's graceful smile, she didn't bother to find out the truth and jumped to a conclusion.
Was Linda trying to embarrass her on purpose? Why?
Mary didn't get it, but she wouldn't admit to something she didn't do.
"I didn't do it." She looked at Bishop and asked, "Did I touch you?"
Bishop shrank back, crying again. "Grandma, she glared at me. She's so mean!" His cries filled the living room once again.
Mary couldn't believe it. How could a seven-year-old act like this?
Brenda got angrier. "How dare you threaten my grandson! Linda, your maid has no shame. Hand her over to me. If you can't handle her, I will!"
Linda's face turned serious. "Mary, apologize! And it's over. If Brenda takes you, it'll be worse."
Mary's expression turned cold. She stood out in her plain clothes, proud and defiant. "I didn't do it."
"Take her!" Brenda called for a bodyguard, who approached Mary and grabbed her arm.
Mary looked at Linda, confused.
Linda frowned. "Mary, why are you so stubborn? Just an apology. Is it so hard?"
"Why should she apologize for something she didn't do?" A deep, magnetic voice cut through the tension. Everyone turned to see Matthew's tall figure walking in.
