Chapter 459 He's Deceiving You

A chill ran down Mary's spine as she tried to keep her emotions in check.

Linda finished with the zipper and suddenly asked, "Mary, did you see that basement?"

Mary shook her head, "No, I came straight here after I got out. I was worried about Grandma."

Linda nodded. "Good thing you didn't. You'd probably freak out if you saw it."

With that, she left the closet.

Linda walked out of the bedroom. When Mary emerged, she looked a bit pale.

Matthew noticed something was off. He walked over, took her hand, and felt it was ice-cold.

Matthew asked, "What's wrong?"

Mary pulled her hand away, looked down, and said, "Let's deal with Grandma's situation first. I don't want any misunderstandings."

Matthew agreed, but he could still feel her resistance.

She wasn't like this before. What happened?

Mary turned to leave, but Matthew grabbed her and asked, "Where are you going?"

Mary paused and said, "I want to check on Grandma."

Matthew replied, "They won't let you until things are sorted out."

Mary stopped for a moment, then kept walking.

Matthew grabbed her arm and asked, "Are you avoiding me?"

Mary couldn't keep up the act. Tense, she looked up at him and asked, "Did you handle Gerald's situation?"

Matthew instantly knew Linda must have said something to Mary. Otherwise, she wouldn't be asking this.

Matthew's face showed no emotion as he coldly said, "Mary, it's over."

"It's not!" Mary pulled her arm away again, trying to keep her emotions in check. "Gerald said he was framed. He said he didn't steal those things!"

Mary took a deep breath and continued, "Matthew, you don't know how much Gerald took care of me when I was at his house. Even if Mark has given up on him, I still want to find out the truth. What if he was set up?"

Matthew looked at her, clearly upset. "So, how do you plan to investigate?"

Mary opened her mouth but had no answer.

What should she do? It was a tough question.

Could she rely on just a moment of emotional impulse?

She started to calm down.

Matthew continued, "If everything was planned out, the other party wouldn't give you a chance to find out."

Mary's face turned even paler.

Matthew looked at the trembling Mary and said coldly, "Mary, Gerald tricked you. He made you believe him with just a few words because you think his family was kind to you."

Mary instinctively shook her head. "No, that's not it."

Matthew frowned. "He was in agony, but he couldn't die. So when he finally met you, he tried every way to deceive you. Mary, wake up, don't be fooled by him!"

Mary didn't speak. She looked down, her mind replaying Gerald's words and her memories of him.

She instinctively believed Gerald wasn't the type to steal, but she had also seen the evidence.

She was doubting, 'Was Gerald really deceiving me?'
