Chapter 407 Is it because your wife doesn't like you?
For that fragile and hard-to-pin-down connection, they were willing to hand the project over to the studio.
By doing that, they'd get on Matthew's good side, which could be a big win for their company down the line.
Mary kept a straight face and said, "If there's a project, let's get on it."
Maria grinned, "Looks like you're our studio's lucky charm. I'll make sure to bring you along to these shindigs from now on."
Mary chuckled, "But we might not bump into Michael every time."
Maria's eyes lit up. "No worries, as long as you're around."
Mary didn't say much else and headed back to her desk, diving into work. Her initial draft had already passed review, and the client was talking about coming in to discuss the contract.
Mary got super busy. And she didn't see Matthew for a whole week.
The awkward end to that night had made things even more shaky between them.
Shirley had been trying to get Mary out for dinner, and it took a few tries to finally make it happen.
They went straight to a BBQ joint.
As soon as they walked in, the smell hit them. Shirley took a deep breath, saying, "Finally, some real food!"
Mary smiled. "Go ahead and dig in."
Shirley shook her head. "What's the fun in eating alone? It's only fun with you."
Mary stayed quiet.
They got a private room.
Shirley grabbed the menu, ordered a bunch of stuff, and handed it back to the waiter. She turned to Mary. "By the way, did you figure out who was behind those people?"
Mary said, "No idea. I haven't seen Matthew in days."
Shirley raised an eyebrow, "What's up with that? You two on a break?"
Mary took a sip of her juice. "Sort of."
"Is that a good thing? Does that mean a divorce is next?" Shirley got more excited. "Did he finally agree to it?"
Mary smiled. "I wish."
Shirley sighed, "I really don't get him. If he loves you, he sure doesn't show it. If he doesn't, why won't he divorce you? What's his deal?"
Mary said, "I wish I knew."
Shirley added, "Forget it, let's not talk about him. I'm heading to the restroom."
"Okay." Mary nodded and pulled out her phone to watch a video.
But five minutes later, Shirley came back with a cold smile. "Guess who I just saw."
Mary looked confused. "Matthew?"
Shirley nodded. "Bingo. I've never seen a guy like him. Won't divorce you, but he's out with another woman. It's so gross!"
Mary's face went stiff. "He's here?"
Shirley said, "In the room next to us. And this time, it's not Laura."
Mary's mouth twitched.
"No way, I can't let this slide!" Shirley put down her glass and stormed out of the room.
Mary was shocked and quickly got up to follow. If Shirley confronted him, it would definitely piss Matthew off!
Things had finally calmed down, and she didn't want any more drama!
"Shirley, wait!" Mary tried to stop her.
But Shirley had already opened the door to the other room, standing there with her arms crossed. "Well, if it isn't Mr. Montagu. Why didn't you invite your wife out for dinner? Or does she just not like you?"
