Chapter 672 Such a Ruthless Kiss

Matthew held her tightly for what felt like forever before finally letting her go.

Mary's feet touched the ground, and the surreal feeling began to fade.

Her breathing was still rapid, and her body felt weak, too exhausted to push him away.

Matthew supported her until she could stand on her own, then released his grip.

His eyes were as deep as the night, staring at her for a long moment before he turned and left without a word.

The crisp scent that lingered around him dissipated as he walked away.

Mary stumbled out of the bathroom. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she gradually regained her composure.

"Mary!"

Shirley's voice called out.

She hurried in, seeing Mary sitting on the bed, and asked, "I just saw Matthew leave. He looked like he had been drinking, and his clothes were a mess. Did he do anything to you?"

As she spoke, her gaze fell on Mary's face, immediately noticing her swollen, kissed lips.

Shirley pointed at her lips, "Your lips are all swollen. He really went for it, huh?"

Mary was speechless.

The complex and heavy emotions she had been feeling dissipated completely after hearing Shirley's words.

She said, "He didn't do anything. What about you? Weren't you supposed to come back later?"

Shirley replied, "I finished early, so I came back to keep you company. If I had come back a bit earlier, would I have seen something I shouldn't have?"

Mary gave her a long look but said nothing.

Shirley quickly pleaded, "I'm sorry, Mary. Don't be mad. I won't tease you anymore."

Mary got up to do her skincare routine. Looking at herself in the mirror, her eyes fell on her swollen lips.

Thinking about Matthew's earlier demeanor, she sensed an inexplicable fragility in him.

It was as if, by insisting on the divorce, she was leaving him with no one.

How could that be?

He had friends and family. She was just a passerby in his life.

Mary closed her eyes, pushing those thoughts away.

The day before the court hearing.

Mary met with her two lawyers again to finalize the details for the courtroom.

By the time they finished, it was already afternoon.

She walked out of the café, the warm sunlight bathing her, making her feel cozy.

Heading towards her car, she got in and fastened her seatbelt. Suddenly, she felt a chill run down her spine.

"Drive."

A raspy male voice came from the back seat.

Mary's face turned pale. She looked in the rearview mirror but could only see a person sitting in the back, wearing a black hat and mask, hiding their face completely.

"Who are you?"

Her voice trembled.

Anyone would be scared out of their wits to find a stranger in their car!

A knife suddenly appeared, pressed against her neck. The voice grew colder, "I said, drive!"

Mary didn't dare move recklessly. "Okay, I'll drive. Please don't kill me."

Her hands and feet shook as she started the car. The sharp blade was right against her neck; any forward movement from him, and she would be done for.

Mary's face grew even paler. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, she quivered, "Where to?"

The man gave her an address.

Mary drove in that direction as instructed.

The man held the knife at her neck in such a way that even when they passed by traffic cops, nothing seemed amiss.
