Chapter 687 The Montagu Group Changes Ownership
"Yeah, that's right." Mary nodded, her eyes serious as she looked at him. "So, will you sign?"
Matthew's expression turned icy. He looked away and didn't touch the divorce papers, flat-out refusing.
Mary wasn't fazed. She put the papers away, knowing he'd sign them eventually.
She regretted not signing when he had someone deliver the divorce papers to her every day. How foolish she had been.
After Matthew finished his meal, Mary asked again, "Will you sign now?"
Matthew looked at her coldly. "If I don't sign, are you gonna ask me every day?"
"Yep." Mary nodded.
Matthew gritted his teeth. "Mary, I've told you before, I'm not divorcing you."
Mary shrugged. "But what's the point of staying married? I don't love you."
In the past, he found that statement amusing. What did love matter? He didn't need it.
But now, his heart ached and it became hard to breathe as he heard her say it so calmly.
His face darkened as he stared at her. "I still won't agree to the divorce."
"Fine." Mary conceded. "Then we'll wait for the court date."
With that, she picked up the food container and left without a hint of reluctance.
Matthew pressed his lips together, watching her disappear. The room quickly fell into a cold silence.
Mary stood by the elevator, her eyes downcast. She thought about Matthew's expression earlier. It had affected her, but she pushed those feelings aside, remembering everything she had been through.
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
She looked up to see Linda stepping out.
After half a month, Matthew's stepmother finally showed up.
"Mary, it's you. Are you here to see Matthew?" Linda smiled warmly, as usual.
But for some reason, Mary felt like she was being watched by a snake.
The feeling passed quickly.
She nodded. "Yeah."
Linda smiled. "I've been so busy lately, and I didn't know about his accident. As soon as I heard, I came right over. I'll go see him now. You go ahead with your business."
"Okay." Mary nodded and entered the elevator.
Linda walked into Matthew's room.
Her smile faded a bit when she saw him sitting up in bed and looking out the window.
"Matthew, he's your own father. How could you be this cruel?"
Matthew glanced at her. "Are you here to speak for him or for yourself?"
Linda's expression faltered, then she said, "At the last Montagu Group shareholders' meeting, you showed up with the most shares and took over your father's position as chairman. He's been hospitalized because of it. Matthew, your father only wanted you to step back a little."
Matthew scoffed. "The DK Group has merged with the Montagu Group, and you say he just wanted me to step back? He cut off all my options. Whether I stepped back or not didn't matter."
Linda looked at him with a complex expression. "Now, you're the head of the Montagu family. I won't interfere with your plans. I just hope you won't take away what's mine. That would make things very difficult for me."
