Chapter 209 The House is Sold
She wanted to erase all traces of Matthew from her life.
On the phone, Robert chuckled, "Alright, wait for me. I'll be there soon."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Mary listed her house for sale on an app.
Fifteen minutes later, the doorbell rang.
Mary opened the door to find Robert, with his short purple-gray hair and a smile. Leaning on the door frame, he asked, "Why the sudden change of heart?"
Mary replied, "The house is too big. I'm scared to live alone."
Robert raised an eyebrow. "That reason..."
He didn't believe her reason but didn't push it.
Mary smiled. "Robert, take a look at the house."
Robert walked in, took a few strides around, and said, "It's nice. But Mary, this house is second-hand. Even with the great location, the offer might not meet your expectations."
Mary looked at him. "You didn't even ask. How do you know my price?"
Robert asked, "Oh? How much?"
"Pay and it's yours."
Robert laughed. "Don't joke. For such a good house, I won't let you lose out."
Just then, Robert's phone rang. He answered, "Come on up," and hung up.
Soon, a man in a suit appeared at the door. Adjusting his glasses, he greeted, "Mr. Williams."
Robert waved him in. "Come in."
Turning to Mary, Robert said, "He's here for the transfer paperwork. Should I transfer the money directly to your account?"
Mary was surprised. "So fast?"
Robert said, "Not fast at all. Your house has no issues. If it's good, we should close the deal quickly."
Mary nodded. They signed the contract on the spot.
In less than half an hour, the house had a new owner.
The transfer procedures still needed to be completed, but the transaction between Mary and Robert was done. From today on, she had nothing to do with this house.
Her bank account now had several million dollars more.
She seemed rich enough to live freely and happily.
Despite this being the life she had always wanted, she felt no excitement.
Robert looked at her and said, "Congratulations. I'll treat you to dinner tonight."
Mary smiled. "Sure."
Mary packed her things simply. Robert watched and said, "No rush. You can pack when you find your place."
Mary said, "No need. I have a place to stay. Since this one is sold, I should move out."
Seeing her seriousness, Robert didn't say more and asked, "Is it the one you stayed in during that incident?"
"Yes."
Mary nodded.
Robert said, "I'm investigating that person, but every time we get close, he disappears."
Mary looked at him gratefully. "Robert, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I might have died."
Robert chuckled. "If you want to thank me, how about something practical?"
Mary was puzzled. "Like what?"
Robert said, "A week from now, I need to attend a banquet. Be my date as a way to repay me. How about it?"
