Chapter 207 It's Your Own Disobedience
Laura's face lit up with a smile. "Thanks. As long as you don't lock her up, it's fine. I'll talk to her when she gets back."
"Okay," Matthew replied coldly, but the sound of a car door closing interrupted him before he could say more.
"No way!" Mary walked over, her eyes full of emotion as she looked at Matthew. "You can't release Lily!"
Matthew frowned. "Are you ordering me?"
Mary's fingers curled instinctively, and her heart ached. She looked at his stern face, feeling like he was a stranger.
Laura chimed in, "Ms. Smith, my cousin acted impulsively and made a mistake. She knows she was wrong. If that's not enough, I apologize on her behalf." She bowed to Mary, putting herself in a humble position. "Ms. Smith, I'm sorry!"
Matthew grabbed Laura's arm and pulled her up. "Laura, what are you doing? Lily's actions have nothing to do with you."
Laura straightened up, her eyes red but forcing a smile. "How can it have nothing to do with me? Lily is my cousin. Someone has to take responsibility for her mistakes. Ms. Smith, I just hope you can forgive her."
Matthew looked at Mary, his expression still cold but his stance clear. He thought, 'Laura has apologized. Are you still holding a grudge?'
Mary's face turned ashen. She didn't look at Laura, only at Matthew. "Don't you know what happened to me last night?"
He knew everything and had found out that Lily orchestrated it all. Yet today, with Laura pleading, he still planned to release Lily. He treated Laura very well. But what about her? After all, they had spent the entire night together! Could he just pretend nothing happened?
Mary's eyes sparkled with stubborn defiance. Matthew's voice was low and cold. "You didn't listen to me. Who's to blame?"
Mary raised her hand to slap him, but Laura stepped in front of Matthew just in time, and the slap landed on Laura's face! Laura staggered and fell into Matthew's arms.
"Laura!" Matthew held her, his eyes coldly fixed on Mary. "Apologize to Laura!"
Mary sneered. "No!" She walked past them, her face pale but indifferent.
Having seen Matthew's crap too many times and been let down repeatedly, this time was no different for her.
Mary thought, 'If you want to put on a show of deep affection, I don't wanna play along!'
Behind Mary, Laura's faint sobs could be heard, and Matthew was softly comforting her.
Mary only found it laughable! If Matthew cared so much about Laura, why didn't he divorce her? The truth was, Matthew didn't want to let go of either side, but she no longer wanted to be involved.
Mary exited the elevator and started packing her things at her desk. Her colleagues looked at her with confusion but said nothing. Mary quickly packed her stuff and walked out with a box in her arms.
As she waited for the elevator, Michael came down and, seeing her like this, quickly said, "Ms. Smith, Mr. Montagu wants to see you."
