Chapter 232 Not Fully Enjoyed
David looked at her, surprised. "Mary, did you stay here last night?"
Lindenville, though small and poor, had the Opulent Oasis Hotel, which not everyone could afford.
Mary was actually staying there.
Mary looked puzzled. "What's up?"
David said, "I came for a job interview. Didn't expect to see you. Where are you headed? Still going to the orphanage?"
Mary replied, "No."
David was shocked. "Not looking for your biological parents anymore?"
Mary's expression was indifferent. "No."
She suspected Barbara was just stringing her along to get her to Peter. Plus, she wasn't that interested in finding her biological parents.
If she found them, great. If not, whatever.
David nodded. "So where are you going now?"
Mary looked at him coolly. "Do you need something?"
David scratched his head, embarrassed. "Actually, if you're not in a hurry to leave Lindenville, I'd like to take you out for a meal."
Mary was about to speak.
At that moment, she felt a cold, piercing gaze on her, chilling her to the bone. She didn't need to guess who it was.
Mary suddenly smiled. "Sure, when?"
David's eyes lit up. "How about tonight? Where are you staying? I'll pick you up."
Mary told him the hotel name and said, "I'm a bit tired. I'll go rest first. See you tonight."
"Okay."
David nodded, a bright smile on his face.
Mary walked to the roadside, got into a taxi, and left.
Not far away, Matthew was staring in their direction. Seeing David still looking until Mary left, his face turned cold.
"Mr. Montagu?"
Rodolfo's cautious voice sounded.
Matthew got into the car, but his cold aura made everyone around him tremble with fear.
Mary returned to the hotel and had a good sleep. When she woke up, it was already afternoon.
Shirley called.
"Hello?"
Shirley asked, "Mary, how's your trip going?"
Mary turned over, sounding dejected. "Not great."
Shirley continued, "What happened?"
Mary said, "Too complicated to explain over the phone. I'll tell you when I get back. How about you?"
Shirley chuckled. "Everything's under control. Herman is head over heels for my other identity. He agrees to whatever I say. I never thought Matthew's friend would be so whipped by his girlfriend."
Mary paused. "Shirley, it's okay to have some fun, but don't let it get out of hand."
Shirley snorted. "Nope. You have no idea how bad Herman is. He's been tormenting me in every way possible. I need to teach him a lesson. When he finds out the person he's been madly in love with online is actually me, he'll be furious. Just thinking about that scene makes me feel so satisfied!"
Mary was still worried. "Since he's friends with Matthew, he probably has a hot temper. If you really push him too far, make sure you have a plan B."
"Don't worry, I will." Shirley sounded full of fighting spirit, clearly not done with her game yet.
