Chapter 228 Kicked Out

"Miss, I'm sorry, but our hotel policy doesn't allow non-guests to stay in the lobby. Please leave."

Mary's face fell.

'Is that really a rule here?' Mary wondered.

After thinking it over, she got it. Lindenville's only high-end hotel catered to VIPs. They couldn't just let anyone in. What if something happened to their guests?

But it was pouring outside, and there were no cars. Where could she go?

Mary pressed her lips together, thinking of Matthew, who brought her here. She couldn't go back to her hotel. He had to take responsibility!

She stood up and said, "I have a friend staying here."

Loren replied, "Let me take you to your friend."

He smiled, but his eyes showed disdain, like he was waiting to catch her in a lie. Mary hated that feeling but had nothing to say.

She got up and went to the elevator, then realized she didn't know which floor Matthew was on. She hesitated and asked, "Which floor is Matthew Montagu on?"

Loren looked at her like she was joking. "Miss, is your friend Mr. Montagu?"

His eyes showed caution. As a major investor in Lindenville, he couldn't let anything happen to Matthew!

Loren thought, 'Is she trying to seduce Matthew? She's overestimating herself!'

Mary said, "Yes."

Loren replied, "Then call Mr. Montagu. I need to confirm your identity before I can take you up."

Mary sighed. "My phone is broken."

Loren's face turned cold. "Then I'm sorry, I can't take you up. Please leave."

Mary felt uncomfortable but had no proof she knew Matthew. She was really out of luck!

Resigned, she left the elevator and walked outside. Just then, another elevator opened, and Michael walked out.

"Ms. Smith."

Mary turned and blinked. "Michael."

Michael smiled politely. "I apologize for earlier. Why don't you come up and wait for the rain to stop?"

Mary felt puzzled but agreed. "Okay, but the manager said I have to leave."

Loren was about to leave but perked up when he heard Michael and Mary talking. Hearing Mary's words, he stiffened and quickly said, "I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought this lady was... Anyway, I'm very sorry."

Mary looked at him. "What did you think I was?"

She felt vindicated seeing Loren's embarrassment, and her earlier displeasure vanished.

Michael also looked at Loren. He had been with Matthew for a long time. Even as an assistant, he outranked a hotel manager.

Pressure weighed on Loren, and he broke into a cold sweat. He wiped it off and said, "I'm really sorry. Let me take you up. You're soaking wet, and you might catch a cold."

Mary didn't intend to make things difficult for Loren. She nodded and walked towards the elevator.

Michael then said to Loren, "Ms. Smith is very important to Mr. Montagu. Make sure this doesn't happen again when she visits."
