Chapter 97 Lock This Bastard up Together
Mary emerged from the company building, relieved that Matthew hadn't followed her.
She was really afraid that the jerk would go wild again.
Mary walked towards the subway station, planning to head back to the Maple Grove Manor. Taking the subway was convenient as it was a direct route to her destination.
Just as she rounded a corner, she caught sight of a familiar figure following her out of the corner of her eye. She paused, turned to look, and recognized the person as Sam, the man who had saved her last night and apologized to her this morning for no apparent reason.
She pondered, 'How did he know where I worked? Why was he following me? What did he want?'
Mary became instantly wary and quickened her pace towards the subway station. Once she swiped her card to enter, she glanced back to see Sam following her inside.
Her breath hitched, and she took out her phone, ready to call the police! If Sam had any ill intentions towards her, she would definitely report him!
She couldn't do it now because she wasn't sure if he was just coincidentally on the same route.
Throughout the journey, Mary remained on edge. When she reached the terminal station and exited, she turned around to find Sam still following her!
Mary thought, 'Heavens! What was he up to? Why was he persistently following me? If he continued, I would call the police!'
Mary quickened her steps, hoping to reach the Maple Grove Manor, where Sam couldn't enter.
However, just as she was about to enter the Maple Grove Manor, she heard hurried footsteps behind her. Due to a previous incident where someone had grabbed her hair from behind, her face turned pale, and she abruptly turned around, loudly asking, "Why are you following me? What do you want?"
As she called 911, Sam, taken aback by her sudden turn, tried to explain, "I just wanted to apologize, I..."
Before Sam could finish his sentence, Mary's call to the police had connected, and she spoke rapidly, "Hello? Police? Someone is following me and seems to have ill intentions!"
"No, I didn't..." Sam froze, taking a step forward instinctively.
"Ah! Don't come near me!" Mary screamed and retreated several steps.
On the other end of the line, the police realized the seriousness of the situation and immediately asked for the address. Mary provided it, and the call remained connected.
Mary's scream left Sam tongue-tied. A hint of embarrassment appeared on Sam's otherwise expressionless face.
He couldn't understand how things had escalated to this point.
In less than ten minutes, the patrol arrived.
Mary quickly ran behind the police officers, pointing at Sam, "It's him. He's been following me!"
"Don't move, come with us!" One police officer commanded.
When Matthew arrived at the police station, Sam was being held for interrogation. Seeing Matthew, Sam's expression seemed to hint at grievance.
Matthew's tone was cold, he asked the police, "What's going on?"
The police explained, "The lady is in the next room. She refused to settle this privately. Are you her friend? Are you here to handle this?"
"Yes," Matthew replied and went to the other room.
Upon entering, he saw Mary holding a glass of water, seated in a chair while a female officer spoke gently to her.
"Mary." Matthew's deep gaze fell on her face.
Mary looked up, surprised to see him. "Why are you here?" she asked, puzzled. She hadn't called him!
Mary thought, 'Was he following me? Could I press charges now? Have this jerk locked up, too!'
