Chapter 279 Michael is about to Cry
Michael was on the verge of tears.
Why was Laura in Lindenville? Why did she show up here?
He stood aside, watching Laura on the sofa, then glanced at his phone.
Michael thought, "Oh no! I just called Mary!"
He had planned to smooth things over between Matthew and Mary, but now it was all messed up.
He noticed Mary had already left.
She must have seen Laura.
Laura looked at Matthew with tenderness, waiting for his touch.
Matthew's hand stopped halfway, his face still a bit drunk, eyes half-closed. "Who are you?"
Laura was stunned and grabbed his hand. "Matthew, it's me, Laura."
Matthew pulled his hand back and rubbed his brow. "What are you doing here?"
His tone was more sober now.
Laura looked at her empty hand and softly said, "You haven't been back for a while. I missed you, so I asked your dad where you were and came to surprise you. Aren't you happy to see me?"
Matthew's tone turned colder. "You shouldn't have come."
Laura's face showed embarrassment, tears welling up. "Is it because Mary is here? Did you come for her?"
Matthew said, "The living conditions here aren't as good as in Lindwood City. You might be uncomfortable."
Laura thought, 'So that's it.'
She felt a bit relieved. "It's okay, wherever you are, I will be."
Matthew said, "It's late. I'll have someone take you to a hotel."
Laura asked, "Matthew, where are you staying? Can I stay at the same hotel? I'm not familiar with this place, and I'm a bit scared."
Matthew looked at her deeply and didn't refuse. "Let's go."
Joy flashed in Laura's eyes as she stepped forward to support him. "Matthew, you're drunk. Let me help you."
But Matthew said, "Michael, come here!"
"Yes!"
Michael immediately came over to support him.
Laura's outstretched hand met only air.
Leaving the bar, Laura wanted to sit in the back seat with Matthew, but he refused.
He looked at her and said, "You sit in the front. I've been drinking, I smell bad, it might bother you."
Laura smiled, "It's okay, Matthew, let me take care of you."
"You sit in the front."
Matthew's tone was firmer.
Laura had no choice but to agree.
"Okay."
Back at the Opulent Oasis Hotel, Laura followed Matthew to the suite door. Michael took out the room card and swiped it, feeling tense.
After entering, Laura said, "There are so many rooms here. I'll stay to take care of you, okay?"
Matthew's cheeks were still a bit red. He looked around the suite, not seeing any sign of Mary.
He sat on the sofa, closed his eyes, and said to Michael, "Get Laura another room."
"Yes."
Michael nodded, then looked at Laura, "Ms. Sarah, please come with me."
But Laura looked at Matthew, "Matthew, let me stay. I promise I won't disturb you. I can cook and take care of you, okay?"
Matthew refused, "It's not appropriate."
