Chapter 186 Hung Up On Her

Linda left the beauty salon.

Mary hadn't been sleeping well lately. She lay on the bed, and the technician started massaging her. She gradually fell asleep.

When she woke up, it was already dark outside.

Mary left the salon and tried to catch a cab home.

She hadn't realized before, but the salon was on the outskirts, making it hard to find a cab.

Mary stood by the roadside for a while before finally spotting a taxi.

"Where to?" the driver asked as soon as she got in.

"Maple Grove Manor," Mary replied, then checked her phone. Shirley had been complaining about Herman being a jerk.

One message caught Mary's attention.

Shirley: [Mary, got any unused social media accounts?]

Mary: [Why?]

Shirley: [Herman's a jerk. I need to get back at him. Found an account. Just wait and see!]

Mary: [Don't go too far. If you push him too hard, you'll regret it.]

Shirley: [Don't worry, I got this.]

Mary: [Okay.]

After that, Mary didn't say more.

She had sent evidence of poisoned food to Matthew, but he never responded. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and she closed her phone.

Suddenly, a faint fragrance filled the car. Mary,  who disliked perfume and rarely used it, was quite sensitive to scents, frowned. She noticed the driver was wearing a hat and mask, hiding his face.

Feeling uneasy, she gripped her phone tightly and pretended to stay calm. In her nervous state, she dialed a number without checking. It was Matthew's number, her latest contact.

She wanted to hang up, but her unease made her fingers tremble. She felt a tiny bit of hope.

After three rings, the call connected.

"Hello, you..."

"Why are you still bothering Matthew? He said he'd divorce you. He doesn't love you. Stop bothering him," Laura's weak voice interrupted.

Mary froze, gripping her phone tighter. "Give him the phone. I have something important to tell him."

Laura coughed angrily, then said, "Matthew, it's Mary."

"Hang up on her," Matthew's cold voice came through, devoid of warmth. Mary's heart sank.

Laura promptly hung up.

Mary's face turned pale.

Mary mused, 'It isn't Laura stirring things up; it is Matthew himself telling Laura to hang up.'

The hope in Mary's heart felt like a slap in the face, stinging her cheeks and making her head spin.
