Chapter 346 Curse Him to Never Get a Wife
Mary strolled in, taking in the roomy space. The old company's desks and chairs were still neatly set up.
She wandered over to the window and peeked outside.
"Whatcha think?" Maria asked.
Mary glanced back. "It's alright, but what's the budget?"
Maria grinned. "No budget. If it feels good, I'm in."
Mary raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'So why'd she drag me along?'
Maria added, "There's another spot upstairs. Let's check it out."
"Sure," Mary shrugged, trailing behind Maria. They spent the whole day scoping out rental studios. Eventually, Maria picked one in a different office building.
Mary was just tagging along for the ride.
After signing the lease, Maria said, "Thanks for the help. I'll treat you to a meal.."
Mary checked her watch. "Can't tonight. Got plans."
Maria raised an eyebrow. "What's more important than free food?"
Mary chuckled. "It's really important. Rain check?"
Maria sighed, "Alright, but thanks for sticking with me. Need a lift?"
She jingled her car keys.
This time, Mary didn't say no.
In the car, Mary gave her neighborhood's name.
Maria asked, "You moved?"
Mary nodded. "Sold my place to you, remember? Had to move."
"Right," Maria smirked.
The car pulled up to Mary's neighborhood. "I'll head in. Thanks for the ride."
Maria replied, "No prob. Hit me up anytime. We still gotta do that meal."
"Sure thing," Mary agreed, heading into the neighborhood.
Watching her walk away, Maria lazily dialed Matthew's number.
"Hello?" Matthew's voice was deep and magnetic, but icy.
Maria drawled, "Mary's leaving Lindwood City. If you wanna do something, better hurry."
Matthew's face darkened. "She told you that?"
"Yep."
Matthew pressed, "Did she say where she's going?"
Maria replied, "I've known her for two days. Surprised she even met up with me. How would I know?"
Matthew's tone turned colder. "Then work harder, or kiss your year-end bonus goodbye."
He hung up.
Maria glared at her phone. 'Matthew's such a ruthless jerk! Always exploiting the little guy. Hope he never finds a wife!'
Mary got home and started cooking. Then she texted Robert.
Mary: [Hey Robert, can I come over tonight?]
Robert: [Sure thing.]
Mary put her phone away, packed the food, and headed to the hospital.
Opening the ward door, she saw Robert struggling to walk to the bed. No one else was around.
Mary rushed over to help. "Robert, why are you out of bed?"
Getting up too soon wasn't good for his bones.
Robert smiled weakly. "Been lying down so long, I feel like I'm turning to stone. Gotta move."
Seeing her worried face, he suddenly said, "Matthew must be kicking himself right now."
