Chapter 63 Parting on Good Terms
Matthew said, "If you don't want to hang out, stay here."
With that, he stood up and walked towards the room.
Mary slammed the cutlery on the table.
She was so angry that she had lost her appetite!
Why couldn't they have a proper discussion about this matter?
It really pissed her off!
Just then, Mary's phone rang, and she calmed herself before picking it up to see that it was a call from Shirley.
"Mary, where are you?" Shirley's lazy voice came through.
Mary replied, "Emerald Isle City."
Shirley said, "Nice place! The church there is said to be quite spiritual. Do you want to go and say a prayer?"
Mary's eyes lit up, "Okay, then I'll stay for another day."
Shirley said, "I miss you, come back soon."
"Okay." Mary responded.
The call ended quickly.
Soon, Matthew came out, and Mary stood up, saying, "I'm going to the church."
Matthew looked at her, his eyes unreadable, "Should I go with you?"
"Sure." Mary nodded.
Matthew responded indifferently and walked ahead.
It seemed like he had nothing to do today. After getting into the car, he drove wherever she wanted to go.
Since it wasn't a workday, there were quite a few people at the church praying.
Matthew glanced at her and asked, "What's the church for?"
Mary replied, "For God's help to get rid of a douchebag ASAP."
Matthew stopped abruptly.
After walking for a while and noticing he wasn't beside her, Mary turned back to him and asked, "Why aren't you coming?"
"Am I a douchebag?" Matthew asked.
His words amused Mary, and she laughed, "You are. Our marriage was fine, and now that your memory is back, you want a divorce to take responsibility for another woman. Isn't that enough?"
Matthew pursed his lips into a thin line, and after a pause, he said, "She lost a leg saving me back then. You saw that."
Mary retorted, "So why don't we go and file for divorce now?"
She wondered, 'What was he waiting for? Wouldn't it be better to have a clean break?'
Matthew looked at her intensely and said after a while, "As soon as we get back."
Mary looked at him, "Can I trust your words?"
"You don't trust me anyway, do you?" Matthew replied.
Mary cursed inwardly, 'He had quite the self-awareness!'
Mary looked at him calmly, "Matthew, we should part amicably."
Matthew stared at her retreating figure, feeling a mix of emotions he couldn't quite pinpoint.
After leaving the church, it was already afternoon. When they got back into the car, Mary took out her phone to text Shirley.
Mary: [I'm coming back soon.]
Shirley: [Okay!]
Mary smiled, but the car suddenly jerked, and her phone slipped from her hand. She looked up in alarm, realizing that the speed of the vehicle had unknowingly increased!
"What's happening?" Mary asked nervously.
As they approached a turn, Matthew even sped up instead of slowing down!
"Matthew, when I said we should part amicably, I didn't mean this! I'm too young to die. Please calm down!" Mary was completely stunned!
