Chapter 22: She was really blind

"Shirley's impulsive by nature. If she did anything to hurt you, I hope you won't hold it against her. I promise it won't happen again."

Shirley's eyes immediately turned red, "Mary, why do you apologize? There was nothing to do with you!"

But Mary ignored her and turned to Matthew, "Is that good enough now?"

There was a glint of shattered light in her eyes. Matthew just wanted to force her to apologize. Well, she would give him what he wanted.

Mary thought to herself, 'She was so blinded. Why not listen to Shirley? The taste of reaping what she had sown was too painful.'

Matthew looked at her deeply, feeling a surge of irritation. What did this have to do with her? A cold, frosty air enveloped him.

At that moment, Laura said, "I'm fine. It's just that Matthew got hurt. Ms. Smith, I know your friend is very upset, but hurting someone is against the law. I hope she won't do this again in the future."

She turned to the bodyguards, saying, "Let her go."

Shirley was immediately released by the bodyguards.

"Mary..."Shirley looked at Mary.

But Mary said, "If there's nothing else, we'll leave now. We don't want to disturb you any further."

Shirley panicked and caught up with Mary in a hurry.

Matthew's cold eyes fixed on the two bodyguards, "Who are you working for?"

The bodyguards were stunned, "For you, sir!"

"So you do know who you are." Matthew's tone grew even colder, "Get out, and never come back again."

The two bodyguards instantly became terrified. They tried to argue, but seeing Matthew's cold, indifferent expression, they shuddered and left with their heads down.

Laura was slightly stunned by this, thinking, ' What did Matthew mean? Was he displeased that the bodyguards obeyed her?'

"Matthew, your wound has been treated. Be careful to keep it dry," Laura said gently, suppressing the strange feeling in her heart,.

Matthew took out a cigarette and lit it. His eyes narrowed slightly, and the light blue smoke enveloped his face, making it hard to discern his expression.

Laura stared at him, "Matthew, are you still worried about the injury of Ms. Smith? It seems she has recovered."

"No," Matthew said coldly.

Laura's eyes flickered. Really? If he wasn't worried, then why did Matthew swiftly deal with Jerry and his gang? He hadn't personally intervened in such things, although the construction site had been troubled for a while. As soon as something happened to Mary, he sent those people to jail. They just asked for reasonable compensation. Wasn't Matthew's punishment too severe?

"I'll have someone take you home."Matthew left the room straight away.

Laura watched his tall figure and suddenly asked, "Do you like Ms. Smith? If you do, I won't say anything more. After all, it was just my own choice to save you back then. Even though it cost me a leg, I've gotten used to it over the past two years."

"Don't overthink it." Matthew turned to her, "Go home and take a rest. She and I will be divorced soon."

The door was opened. Michael was already waiting outside. Matthew instructed him and left right away.

Michael looked at Laura, "Ms. Griffin, this way."

Laura lowered her eyes to hide her emotions.

"Mary, wait!" called Shirley.

Catching up and seeing the pain on Mary's face, Shirley immediately felt guilty, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect Matthew to be so ruthless now."

Mary took a deep breath and said, "Don't apologize! You did it for me. But promise me, don't go to him alone again. We can't afford to provoke him."
