Chapter 316 It Was Mary Who Asked Me to Come Over
Mary shot back, "No need."
She spun on her heel and walked off.
Laura glared at her retreating figure, her eyes narrowing with icy intent.
Mary had been all about divorcing Matthew, but now that Laura was offering a hand, Mary was having none of it!
Laura fumed inwardly, 'Two-faced Mary! That chick just wants to cling to Matthew forever. She only talks divorce to mess with his head! What a sneaky move!'
Laura lowered her gaze, hiding her scheming thoughts.
This time, she was determined to see how Matthew could stick with Mary!
Mary got back to the villa.
A servant approached her and said, "Mrs. Mary Montagu, the kitchen sent the soup Mrs. Victoria Montagu ordered to Mr. Montagu's room. Don't forget to drink it."
"Got it," Mary nodded slightly. "Is Grandma asleep?"
The servant shook her head. "Not yet."
Mary said, "I'll go check on her then."
The servant led her to Victoria's room.
Victoria was fiddling with a flower wreath. When she saw Mary, she lit up, "Mary, are you here to hang out with me?"
"Yeah, Grandma, how about I crash with you tonight?" Mary sat down across from her.
Victoria was about to nod but then reconsidered and shook her head. "No, you should be with Matthew. I'm waiting for a great-grandchild."
Mary's lips twitched.
Victoria might seem childlike, but her mind was all about that great-grandchild.
Victoria said, "It's late; you should get some rest."
Mary didn't budge and said, "How about we play for a bit?"
Victoria was about to decline.
Mary pulled out a string, tied the ends together, and said, "Wanna play cat's cradle?"
Victoria's eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly, "Sure!"
Meanwhile, in Matthew's room.
A servant said, "Mr. Montagu, Mrs. Victoria Montagu told me to make sure you finish the soup."
Matthew glanced at the soup on the table, picked it up, drank it, and then asked, "Where's Mary?"
The servant replied, "Mrs. Mary Montagu is with Mrs. Victoria Montagu."
Matthew nodded and handed the empty bowl to the servant, who then turned to leave. Downstairs, the servant ran into Laura coming back.
"Ms. Griffin, Mr. Montagu said he needs to see you. Please go check," the servant said, approaching her.
Laura was taken aback, thinking, 'Matthew wants to see me? He's been so distant; why now?'
Though confused, Laura headed upstairs.
She reached the door and was about to knock when she noticed it was slightly ajar. She hesitated, then pushed it open and walked in.
"Matthew, you looking for me?"
She called out, but there was no sign of Matthew in the living room.
Instead, she heard the shower running—Matthew was in the bathroom!
Laura's mind raced, and she walked straight to the bathroom, saying, "Matthew, Mary asked me to come help you. If you're not feeling well, can I come in?"
"Get out!"
From inside the bathroom, the sound of water was mixed with Matthew's low, angry growl. Even through the door, Laura could feel his rage!
Laura's eyes gleamed, and she pressed on, "Matthew, let me help you. Mary doesn't care; she even said she wants to divorce you. Matthew, she doesn't love you at all. Let me in, okay? I'm the one who truly loves you."
As her words hung in the air, the bathroom door swung open.
