Chapter 18 It Seems Like I Saw Matthew
'So weird, why is there no one around during lunch break?'Mary panicked, looking even more tense.
"Stop there!"Someone shouted.
"I saw her work badge; she's definitely one of the DK Group!"
"Grab her! We want justice!"
A crowd of people came rushing up behind her. Mary became even more anxious. She ran to one direction, but the next second, she tripped and fell forward. She awkwardly steadied herself, but she couldn't escape from the encirclement.
A dozen of people aggressively besieged Mary.
"Who are you?"Mary calmed herself, staring at them with her beautiful almond-shaped eyes.
A bearded man said, "My brother Larry Hall got his leg crushed while working here. As you are a member of DK Group, you need to give us a solution!"
Mary frowned, "I understand you're concerned about your brother's matter, but someone should be handling this matter for you."
Jerry Hall waved his hand dismissively, "Handling? Someone came and just recompensated my brother hundred thousands of dollars. My brother lost a leg! What could hundred thousands do?"
He was clearly unsatisfied with the compensation. Mary said, "But there's nothing I can do about it; I'm just a low-level employee."
Jerry said, "I don't care. I want a solution today, or I'll break your leg, too, and see if that compensation makes you content!"
Jerry was determined to force Mary.
Mary took a deep breath. It was a tough day. It was the first time she had encountered such a situation. She was scared for sure, but right now, she needed to calm them down. She smiled, "I know you just want justice for your brother. How about you let me go back and talk to the company, having someone else handle it with you. Is it fine?"
Jerry looked hesitating.
"Jerry, don't listen to her; she's just stalling. She won't care about us once she is gone!"
"Yeah, don't let her go!"Someone in the crowd said discontentedly.
Jerry's eyes widened in front of her when Mary was about to say something. Mary felt a sharp pain in her back head the second she was confused by Jerry. Even her safety helmet was shattered! She collapsed to the ground with her pupils dilated.
"Mary!"As her consciousness faded, Mary seemed to hear Matthew's anxious voice. She felt dazed. How could it be? Since she hadn't filed for divorce yet, Matthew probably hated her guts. How could he be here? And how could his tone sound so concerned? Darkness completely enveloped Mary, and the sounds around her vanished.
Hearing the sound of machines operating around her, Mary opened her eyes and smelled the strong scent of disinfectant. She moved her fingers, and someone immediately grabbed them."Mary, you're awake?"
She turned and saw Matthew sitting beside her with his handsome face filled with worry and his eyes fixed intently on her. Was it a dream? Otherwise, how could she see Matthew? Even her slightest move caused a sharp pain in her back head. She gasped in pain, her face scrunching up.
"Don't move; you got hit on the head and caught a mild concussion. You need to rest."Matthew said immediately.
Mary looked at him in a daze, "Aren't you here to settle the score with me?"
