Chapter 775 Do You Have No Shame?
Robert tightened his grip on the wine glass, but his refined, delicate face maintained an impeccable smile.
"Glad you could make it. Thanks for the well wishes."
He was about to move to the next table when Matthew called out, "Hold up, my wife hasn't said anything yet."
There was no escaping now.
Everyone around was watching, and if things got too awkward, it would surely become the laughingstock of Lindwood City.
Mary exhaled softly, raised her glass, and looked at Robert and Joan. "Congrats on your wedding. Hope all your dreams come true."
"Thanks," Joan replied sweetly, clearly pleased.
In her mind, as long as Mary was with Matthew, she posed no threat. There was no need to target Mary anymore.
Since Matthew liked her, what harm was there in giving her some respect?
Matthew turned to Robert. "So, what do you think? Did my wife do well?"
Mary was speechless.
What was wrong with Matthew?
She reached out to pinch his waist, only to find it was all muscle. He tensed up on purpose, making it impossible for her to pinch him!
How infuriating!
Robert's attractive eyes held an unreadable expression as he looked at Mary and nodded. "Thank you, Mrs. Montagu."
With that, he led Joan to the next table.
Finally, it was over.
Mary's tense body relaxed. She looked at Matthew and whispered, "Did you do that on purpose? Are you crazy?"
Her warm breath brushed against his ear, causing his Adam's apple to bob. He lowered his voice as well. "Mary, I just want everyone to understand that you two are not a good match."
Mary resisted the urge to roll her eyes and ignored him.
Even without his antics, she and Robert were never going to happen.
Mary decided to focus on her meal instead.
After the banquet, the lively dance party began, and everyone moved to the upstairs ballroom.
The dance floor was brightly lit, with Robert and Joan naturally being the center of attention.
However, since Joan was pregnant and couldn't dance, the remaining young people took to the floor.
Mary thought she could leave after attending the wedding.
But Matthew had no intention of leaving and pulled her onto the dance floor!
"Do you know how to dance?"
Matthew held her hand and looked down at her.
Mary replied, "I'm a bit tired. I want to go home and rest."
Matthew countered, "But the wedding isn't over yet. Wouldn't it be rude to leave now?"
Mary's clear eyes looked at him without warmth. "You've already achieved your goal. Why stay?"
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Goal? What goal? I don't have any goals."
Playing dumb now.
He was doing this on purpose!
Mary didn't want to argue with him any longer. "I don't know how to dance. I'm tired and need to rest."
She turned and headed to the resting area.
Matthew watched her retreating figure, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes. Then he looked up and saw Robert standing by the second-floor railing, clearly watching Mary.
Even though he was married, he still had feelings for Mary. How shameless.
Matthew went upstairs and stood next to Robert, also looking down at Mary with a soft expression in his eyes.
"It's been a while, Mr. Montagu. You've changed quite a bit," Robert said first.
Matthew's tone was cold. "As long as she likes it, I don't care how I change. But you..."
He paused, then smirked. "You better hold on tight to the Bailey family. If you slip up and lose everything, it won't be worth it."
