Chapter 308 Could It be That They Want Him to Marry Her?

Shirley woke up feeling like a truck had hit her left shoulder.

'Ugh, pain! Where's the damn anesthetic? That jerk Herman didn't even give me any? Is there anyone more stingy than him?' she thought, cursing under her breath.

Tears streamed down her face from the pain.

Herman noticed she was awake and said, "Hey, don't move. It's gonna hurt like hell."

Shirley lay there, feeling like crap.

Pale and weak, she asked, "Mr. Adams, can I ask what terrible thing you did to make someone want to kill you?"

Herman saw the sweat on her forehead and felt a weird softness in his heart. "Sorry for dragging you into this," he said.

Shirley closed her eyes, took a few deep breaths, and asked, "So, I saved your life, right?"

"Yeah," Herman admitted.

Shirley continued, "Then can you promise me one thing?"

Herman paused, remembering some replies from his online post. He thought, 'Does she want me to marry her? No way! I like Snowy! I don't like her at all! We’d be miserable together!'

With a serious look, Herman said, "I can agree, but don't push it.  We're still very different in terms of status."

Shirley was confused, thinking, 'What's Herman talking about?' But since he agreed, she didn't care about his nonsense.

"Just don't make things hard for me anymore, and leave Mary alone, okay?" she said.

Herman let out a sigh of relief. At least she didn't ask him to marry her. But oddly, he felt a bit uncomfortable.

'Is Shirley dumb? Just asking for that?' he thought.

"Mr. Adams?" Shirley asked, seeing Herman lost in thought.

"Okay," Herman replied.

Shirley sighed in relief. Finally, she was free.

Herman suddenly coughed and said, "Besides that, you can ask me for anything. You saved my life, so I owe you one."

Shirley paused. "Anything?"

Herman's throat tightened, and he nodded.

Shirley thought for a moment. "I haven't decided yet. I'll let you know when I do."

Herman frowned, feeling a strange emotion he couldn't quite grasp.

Shirley was exhausted. After saying that, she was already drifting off.

"Oh, and don't tell Mary about this," she said, worried Mary would freak out.

"Okay," Herman replied absentmindedly, still wondering what Shirley might ask for.

'What if she really asks me to marry her? That'd be a mess. Why did I promise her another favor?' he thought.

Mary got back to the hotel, feeling uneasy. She stood there for a moment, and the feeling quickly vanished. Weird.

Just then, her phone rang. It was Matthew.

'Why is he calling me?' she thought, annoyed.

She didn't want to answer.
