Chapter 248 Really Hard to Please
Mary got it right away, walked over, and took Matthew's arm, flashing him a sweet smile.
Matthew's eyes darkened, and he said coldly, "Ugly smile."
Mary's smile vanished.
She cursed silently, 'Matthew, you jerk, you're really hard to deal with!'
She couldn't oppose him, and going along with him didn't work either.
Matthew led Mary toward the villa. As they passed through a gate, the beautifully decorated courtyard came into view.
The nearly 100,000-square-foot villa courtyard was dreamy, with balloons and ribbons everywhere. In the center of the garden, there was even a volcano made of roses!
Pink roses led to a sign with a girl's picture on it.
—Happy Birthday, Jenny Johnson!
Mary realized it was the Johnson family's daughter's birthday party.
"Mr. Montagu, please come in. Mr. Johnson and Ms. Johnson are waiting for you," the villa's butler said, smiling at Matthew.
Matthew nodded and led Mary inside.
As soon as they entered, a cheer rang out, "Matthew, you really came!"
A girl in a beautiful dress rushed into Matthew's arms, full of joy and excitement. Her eyes sparkled with admiration.
Matthew pushed her away and handed her a gift box. "Happy birthday."
Jenny accepted it happily. "Matthew, thank you. I love it!"
The gift didn't matter; it was who gave it.
Matthew smiled gently, "I'm glad you like it."
Then Jenny noticed Mary beside him. Seeing Mary holding Matthew's arm, Jenny's face darkened. She pushed Mary away and took Matthew's arm herself.
"Who are you? Think you can hold onto Matthew?"
She acted like a spoiled princess.
Mary, caught off guard, stumbled but was steadied by Matthew.
A flash of coldness passed through her eyes. Just as she was about to speak, she caught Matthew's warning glance.
Mary thought, 'Fine, I'll endure it.'
Jenny clung to Matthew's arm and walked inside. "Matthew, I heard what happened to you. It's great you're back safely. My dad's been worried; he's waiting inside."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Matthew said indifferently.
Mary followed behind, keeping a moderate distance.
Watching Jenny cling to Matthew, she wondered, 'Did Laura know Jenny liked Matthew? Did Jenny know about Laura?'
Mary mused, 'Jenny and Laura were not equals. Jenny was the cherished daughter of the Johnson family, while Laura was from an insignificant family. The contrast was obvious. But if it came down to a choice, who would Matthew pick?'
Realizing what she was thinking, Mary snapped out of it and focused on Matthew.
'He is excellent, handsome, and strong, easily attracting women. And such a man is devoted to Laura. Neither I nor Jenny seems to be a match for Laura. Because, in love, only the beloved one matters,' Mary pondered.
"Hey, why are you following us? Who let you come? Get out and stop clinging to Matthew!"
Mary was lost in thought when Jenny's voice suddenly rang out.
