Chapter 98 His Apology Made her Feel Bland
The policewoman walked out of the room.
Matthew approached, standing in front of Mary. He said, "Sam works for me."
Mary widened her eyes slightly at his words. "Did you send him to follow me all this time? Pervert!"
A vein throbbed on Matthew's temple.
In a deep voice, Matthew explained, "Sam did something wrong, causing me to misunderstand you. That's why he came to apologize to you."
However, he never expected that Sam wouldn't even mention his affiliation and would directly apologize to Mary.
Mary refrained from treating him like a lunatic, which was already quite considerate!
Perplexed, Mary asked, "What did he do wrong?"
Matthew then recounted the events of that night.
Mary nodded in understanding, "Alright."
Looking at her, Matthew asked, "How do you want to handle this situation?"
Mary suddenly chuckled.
Matthew inquired, "What's amusing?"
Mary replied, "He admitted his mistake and apologized. But what about you?"
Matthew paused, his sexy Adam's apple bobbing up and down. His eyes were so deep, revealing emotions that were hard to decipher.
In the narrow room, the air suddenly became stagnant, a subtle oppressive chill filling the atmosphere.
Mary's grip on the paper cup tightened, causing it to slightly deform.
Just when she thought Matthew wouldn't apologize, he spoke up, "Sorry."
"Mary, I misjudged you. I'm sorry." Perhaps fearing her dissatisfaction, he repeated his apology.
Mary felt a slight relief upon receiving Matthew's apology, but it didn't bring the expected sense of ease; it felt rather bland.
Could what she demanded and his voluntary apology be the same?
"Forget it." Mary stood up, placing the paper cup aside. "Make sure your people stay away from me in the future."
With that, she walked straight past Matthew and out.
As Matthew glanced at her retreating figure, he left the room, and Sam had already been released.
Sam stood in the corner, resembling a child who had done wrong, head bowed.
In a cold tone, Matthew warned, "If it happens again, don't bother showing up."
"I promise it won't happen again," Sam immediately replied.
After leaving the police station, Matthew saw that Mary had already walked far away.
Since it was quite close to the Maple Grove Manor, she would reach it in less than ten minutes.
Matthew gazed at her until her figure turned a corner.
Silent, Sam followed behind him, suddenly asking, "Mr. Montagu, do you still like Ms. Griffin?"
Matthew's voice was low and magnetic, he retorted calmly, "Why are you so curious?"
Sam fell silent.
With his not-so-clever mind, he couldn't understand what Matthew meant.
Mary returned to the Maple Grove Manor, finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
The past few days of anxiety she had made her take a toll, causing her to lose weight visibly.
She decided to treat herself to something delicious.
Exiting the kitchen late at night, she turned on the TV, planning to sit on the carpet, watch a variety show, and eat.
At that moment, her phone vibrated. After checking it, the color drained from her face.
It was a photo—a gruesome image of a bloody, unidentifiable body full of violence and gore. Mary covered her mouth, suddenly feeling nauseous.
Once the hate subsided, a chill crept up from her feet, spreading throughout her body.
Mary pondered, 'Who was responsible for this? Why send me such a thing?
Struggling to stay calm, she immediately called Matthew.
