Chapter 27 An Additional $30 Million Divorce Settlement

Mary was taken aback, "Where are we going?"

Matthew looked tense. He quickly opened the passenger door and shoved her in, showing a sense of urgency.

Once he was in the car, Mary frowned and asked, "Where exactly are we going?"

Matthew replied, "Grandma Victoria had an episode."

Victoria? In her mind, Mary flashed the image of the sweet and lovable old lady. Her emotions were complex.

All the way long, she didn't say much until the car stopped at the nursing home. Matthew strode ahead, with Mary trailing behind him. They walked through the long corridor and arrived at a beautiful small building where several caregivers looked flustered.  From a distance, they could hear Victoria's cries,"Where is my granddaughter-in-law? I want my granddaughter-in-law. Where is she?"

Upon hearing this voice, Mary was truly stunned. Patients with Alzheimer's often had a fading memory, so she had thought that Victoria had long forgotten about her. She didn't expect that after all this time, Victoria still remembered her.

They quickly walked into the small building. Victoria was sitting on the sofa, not allowing anyone to approach her, continuously shouting for her granddaughter-in-law.

"Grandma."Matthew stepped forward, holding Victoria's hand, "I'm here, and she shall be named Mary."

Victoria stopped crying, but it was only for a few short seconds as she quickly shook Matthew's hand away, saying, "Not you, you're a big villain. I want Mary, Mary!"

Matthew's temple twitched, and he looked at Mary instantly. At that moment, Victoria also saw Mary, and she immediately stopped, reaching out her hand towards Mary. "Mary, you're here. You finally came to see me. I thought you would abandon me."

Mary felt indescribably uneasyinside, but she managed to smile, "Grandma Victoria, I didn't abandon you. I've just been caught up with things lately."

Victoria tightly held her hand, tears hanging on her aged face, "What happened? Is the big villain bullying you? It's okay, I'll teach him a lesson for you!"

Looking at Matthew, she said, "You, come here."

Matthew walked over as instructed and bent down, "Grandma, what's wrong with me?"

Victoria raised her hand and slapped Matthew on the shoulder.

"Mary, don't be afraid. I am scolding the big villain," said Victoria pattingMary's hand gently.

Matthew was completely stunned.

Mary couldn't help but laugh.

"You're laughing. You are happy, aren't you?" Victoria said, waving her arms cheerfully.

Mary nodded, "Yes, I'm very happy, grandma. If the big villain bullies me again, I'll come to you to help me deal with him."

"Okay!" Victoria agreed immediately, holding Mary's hand tightly, "Mary, Shall we go play together?"

"Sure." Thinking first to calm Victoria's emotions, Mary agreed to all she proposed.

Matthew watched their figures leave the small building and head into the garden, a softness unconsciously appearing in his eyes.

Just then, his phone rang, and he checked it. It was a call from Laura.

"Hello?"Laura's gentle voice came through, "Matthew, I came to see Grandma Victoria. I saw your car. Are you here, too?"

Upon hearing this, Matthew instinctively replied, "Today isn't convenient. How about you come another day?"

On the phone, Laura's voice hesitated, "Is it because you came with Mary? I saw her with Grandma Victoria."
