Chapter 155 She Won't Get Away With it

Mary glanced down, feeling a wave of unease.

As soon as Linda arrived, she started pointing fingers at Mary. Was she seriously accusing Mary of poisoning Matthew?

Thinking back to Linda's past behavior, Mary felt a chill run through her, spreading from her heart to her whole body.

"What are you doing?" Herman's voice cut through the tension.

Mary looked up as Shirley let go of Herman and walked over, taking Mary's hand with a concerned look. "Mary, it'll be okay."

Shirley had always scolded Matthew, but she knew how much Mary loved him.

Even if Mary was set on divorcing him now, love like that doesn't just disappear overnight. Mary was putting up a front.

"Shirley!" Herman's annoyed voice broke in, "I'm feeling dizzy. Do you want me to fall and hurt myself?"

Shirley turned to him, "If you're dizzy, why don't you stay in bed?"

Herman, feeling a headache coming on, rubbed his temples.

Mary said to Shirley, "Easy on Herman. The sooner he recovers, the sooner you can relax."

Shirley pursed her lips and then said to Herman, "Wait here." She turned and walked away.

Herman frowned, "Where are you going?"

Shirley didn't answer and quickly left.

Herman turned to Mary, "Your friend seems a bit off, doesn't she?"

Mary replied, "Maybe you should get a caregiver. If you don't trust her, what if she accidentally hurts you?"

Herman chuckled, "No need. She's fine. If she hurts me, she'll have to take care of me even longer."

Mary went silent.

Five minutes later, Shirley came back, pushing a wheelchair. "Sit down."

Herman looked at the wheelchair, then at Shirley, "My legs aren't broken."

Shirley blinked, "But you're dizzy, aren't you? Sitting will help. Besides, your legs might not be broken now, but who knows? Better get used to it."

Herman's headache intensified.

Their banter eased the tension outside the emergency room.

Two hours later, the door opened.

A gurney was wheeled out, Matthew's face pale, lips bloodless, an oxygen mask on his face, still unconscious.

"Doctor, how's my son?" Richard asked urgently.

The doctor replied, "The toxins are under control, but detox will take time. For now, he's out of danger."

Richard sighed in relief, "That's great."

Matthew was his only son. He couldn't afford to lose him.

In the VIP ward, everyone stood by Matthew's bedside, watching him closely.

Linda glanced at Matthew and then at Mary. "Mary, are you okay? Do you want to rest? Tonight must have been terrifying."

Richard frowned at Mary and suddenly said, "Get her out. She's not allowed here!"

Linda was shocked, "Honey, what are you doing? Mary is Matthew's wife."

Richard's eyes darkened, "If it wasn't for her, how could Matthew have been poisoned? I suspect she did it! I haven't had her arrested because she's still Matthew's wife. But if the investigation proves she did it, she won't get away with it!"
