Chapter 458 Linda Deliberately Reveals

Matthew's voice dropped low, "Has this guy been found?"

Mary shook her head. "Nope, the butler said no masked servants were hired today."

With the birthday party going on, they had a bunch of part-time servers. They were pretty strict about who they hired, and no way would they let someone wear a mask.

Matthew's face got even colder. He pulled out his phone and made a call.

Maria's lazy voice answered, "Hello?"

Matthew didn't waste time, "Check the surveillance at Montagu Manor."

He gave her a time frame and hung up before she could even respond.

Maria was left speechless, thinking, 'Isn't today supposed to be my day off?'

Mary looked at Matthew, "Can you really check the surveillance there?"

Matthew stayed calm, "Not sure, but we'll find out."

Mary nodded. Either they'd get the footage, or Victoria would help to clear her name.

But Victoria was already asleep, and Mary didn't want to wake her.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Linda's gentle voice came through, "Matthew, Mary, it's me."

Matthew replied coldly, "Come in."

Linda walked in with a set of clothes. She handed them to Mary, "These just arrived. I haven't worn them yet. Try them on."

Mary took the clothes. "Thanks, Aunt Linda."

Linda smiled, "No need to be so formal. If you need anything, just ask."

Mary went into the dressing room to change.

Linda offered, "The zipper's tricky. Let me help."

She pushed the door open and walked in.

Matthew watched for a moment, then went back to his phone.

In the dressing room, Mary changed into a modest, elegant dress that reached past her knees, showing off her slender ankles. The waist was cinched, highlighting her perfect figure.

The zipper was indeed tricky. Linda helped her zip it up, "You look great in this dress."

Mary looked at herself in the mirror. The light yellow dress made her look like a fresh daisy.

Linda sighed, "I know you wouldn't hurt Victoria, but there's no surveillance in that place. Locking you up was really unfair."

Mary lowered her eyes, staying silent.

Linda continued, "How did you get out?"

Mary replied, "The window was open, so I climbed out."

Linda chuckled, "You're pretty resourceful. By the way, you didn't see anything, right? There's a basement in that place, a spot Matthew uses specifically to punish those who disobey."

Mary's expression changed. "That's Matthew's basement?"

Linda nodded. "Yeah, anyone who messes up at Montagu Manor gets sent there. Even if they don't die, they'll be crippled. Matthew didn't have a biological mother growing up and wasn't close to me. Somehow, he turned out this way."

She paused and added, "Recently, a driver at Montagu Manor stole Samuel's relic to sell. When Matthew found out, he sent the driver there and beat him to a pulp. I couldn't even bear to look at the scene!"

Mary instinctively tightened her grip on the dress.

Images of Gerald being beaten to a pulp flashed through her mind. Was that Matthew's doing?
