Chapter 492 What Is the Purpose?

"So, even if we get divorced, you won't give a damn about my feelings, will you?"

Mary's voice was so soft, it could've been carried away by the wind.

Matthew let go of her wrist and said, "Mary, you should think about taking me back. Let's get remarried."

Mary yanked her wrist free, "No way, I'm never marrying you again!"

Her eyes were icy cold. After saying that, she turned and walked away quickly.

Matthew stared at his empty hand, a fierce look in his eyes. He watched her leave, pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag.

He thought to himself, 'Divorce? Not in this lifetime! Even if she dies, she'll still be mine!'

Mary didn't go back to the studio.

In the afternoon, Shirley had some free time, so they went out for Mexican food.

The spicy food helped chase away the coldness in her heart.

Shirley asked, "Now that you're divorced, what's the plan?"

Mary said, "Finish my projects, then quit and leave Lindwood City."

Shirley's eyes lit up. "Where to? Take me with you!"

Mary smiled, "I haven't decided yet. I just know I don't want to stay here."

Shirley nodded, "You're right. You've got money now. You can live any life you want. Why stay here and put up with all this?"

Mary asked, "Are you sure you can leave?"

Shirley shrugged, "There's nothing holding me back. When I'm done with him, I'll move on."

Mary chuckled, "Alright, I'll let you know when I'm ready. We'll leave together and go see the Northern Lights in the Arctic first."

"Deal!" Shirley was thrilled.

They enjoyed their Mexican food and then caught a movie.

Being with friends really was the best.

But while they were in the cinema, Mary's phone buzzed. She took it out and saw a photo.

The theater was dark, with only the light from the big screen.

She saw Gerald lying on the floor, covered in bruises and barely alive, his eyes fixed on the door with a desperate look.

Mary's breath caught, and she tightened her grip on her phone.

Shirley glanced over and frowned, "Who is that? Looks like he's about to die."

Mary put her phone away and said, "Someone I used to know."

Yeah, he was about to die.

But who sent her the photo? And why? What was the point?

Her first instinct was to save Gerald.

That would go against Matthew's wishes.

So, was someone trying to stir up trouble between her and Matthew?

Totally unnecessary.

Their relationship was never good to begin with.

She watched the movie absentmindedly.

Shirley noticed and asked, "Are you worried about that guy?"

Mary nodded, "Shirley, I need to go home."

Shirley said, "I'll take you back. I don't want you going alone in this state."

With that, she pulled her out of the mall.

Shirley knew she had gone back to Maple Grove Manor. As they entered the house, she sighed, "Big houses are the best."

Mary walked to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of water, and took a sip. Then she pulled out her phone and dialed Matthew's number.

Shirley saw this and stayed quiet, just watching.

The call connected, but it wasn't Matthew's voice.

It was Jessica.

Mary recognized it immediately. She tightened her grip on the phone and calmly asked, "Where's Matthew? I need to talk to him."
