Chapter 708 Twists and Turns
Just then, the car was hit hard, causing Mary to lurch forward. Thankfully, she was wearing her seatbelt, or she would have slammed into the steering wheel.
Before she could react, someone started banging aggressively on her window.
Mary frowned and turned to see a burly man standing there, looking impatient.
She rolled down the window and asked, "What's your problem?"
Seeing that the driver was a woman, the man immediately became more aggressive.
He pointed at her and said, "Do you even know how to drive? The light's green, can't you see? What are your eyes for? If you can't drive, don't come out here and embarrass yourself!"
Mary's expression grew colder. She took out her phone and said, "You rear-ended me, and now you're blaming me? Where's your sense of shame?"
The man, seeing this, rolled up his sleeves and cursed, "How dare you talk to me like that? I'm teaching you a lesson. People like you who can't drive shouldn't be on the road. You're a danger to everyone!"
Ignoring him, Mary rolled up the window. The traffic cop arrived shortly after.
Mary called her insurance company and explained the situation with her car.
The man continued to rant and rave.
When the cop arrived, Mary got out of the car to inspect the damage.
The man was still shouting nonsense.
Mary turned to him and said, "This wasn't a big deal initially. We could have handled it through insurance. But since the incident, you've been verbally abusing me and attacking me. I've decided not to go through insurance. You will compensate me for my damages."
She was the victim, and the man was at fault for the rear-end collision.
The man's face turned grim. "What do you mean? Are you trying to scam me? You're a vicious woman! I could say you stopped on purpose to scam me!"
Mary looked at the cop and said, "Officer, I was just about to start moving when he hit me. He's entirely at fault. He's been verbally cursing me, causing me significant emotional distress. I demand compensation for my mental anguish. I'll need to get a psychological evaluation to determine the amount."
Seeing her firm stance, the man's face turned livid. He had thought his intimidating appearance would scare her into backing down or even paying him off.
But he was wrong.
Realizing he was in the wrong, he waved his hand and said, "Fine, it's my fault. We'll go through insurance."
With that, he turned and walked away, not wanting to deal with Mary any longer.
Mary gave him a cold look and then cooperated with the cop to complete the report.
She had to finalize her divorce today, or she would have pursued this matter further to get compensation for her emotional distress.
It took another 40 minutes for the tow truck to arrive and take her car away.
There were less than twenty minutes left until the hour Matthew had mentioned. Fortunately, the place was just around the corner.
Mary grabbed her things and started walking across the street.
She quickened her pace, but just as she crossed the road, someone suddenly ran into her.
