Chapter 42 It's Her Matthew
Matthew's gaze lingered heavily on their figures, and an even colder chill emanated from him, causing others to steer clear.
"Matthew." Laura softly called out as she approached, looking at him with concern. "Are you okay?"
Frowning, she continued, "What does Ms. Smith mean? She's your wife, after all, even though you're about to divorce. But leaving with Robert, that's really out of line."
Matthew indifferently withdrew his gaze and said calmly, "I have to go."
With that, he turned and walked away without looking at Laura.
Laura's expression stiffened.
She sensed a hint of crisis.
Mary's place in Matthew's heart was anything but simple!
How could that be?
She had come so far to get to where she was today, sacrificing a lot, even her leg. She absolutely wouldn't allow Matthew to be taken away by someone else!
On the other side, Mary turned to Robert. "Mr. Williams, let me buy you dinner some another day, but I have something very important to attend to right now, so rain check?"
Robert said, "I don't even think you have my phone number. How could you do that? Is that just another empty promise?"
Mary asked, "Do you have a pen?"
Robert took a pen out of his suit pocket and handed it to her.
Mary unscrewed the pen cap, looked around, and finally said, "Excuse me," before writing her phone number directly on his shirt.
"Just call me then." Mary returned the pen and added, "Bring this shirt over for me to wash when you do."
Robert was momentarily stunned by her actions.
When Mary leaned in to write her number on his shirt, her faint fragrance drifted over, making him feel a bit uneasy.
No woman had ever dared to get this close to him before.
It seemed there were too many firsts with Mary.
He took the pen, and Mary walked away without hesitation.
She had to find Henry, who was the one she had come here for tonight. As for chatting with Robert, that could wait!
She headed in the direction Henry had left but was stopped at the door. It was by invitation only!
Mary had no choice but to wait.
As time passed slowly, the night grew thicker, with the starry sky over the sea undeniably beautiful and the twinkling stars that were breathtaking.
The deck became increasingly empty, but Mary dared not leave, afraid she would miss her chance if she did.
Eventually, she curled up in a corner, keeping a constant watch on the door.
The night breeze over the sea was cold, and Mary shivered from the chill. She hugged herself tightly, feeling dizzy and sleepy, crouching in the corner and dozing off intermittently.
In a half-awake state, a familiar-scented piece of clothing fell on her, and she instinctively grabbed it, wrapping herself tighter.
The scent comforted her, making her feel at ease.
And it belonged to Matthew.
When daylight broke, Mary opened her eyes and realized she had fallen asleep in the corner!
She stood up, supported by the wall, feeling the warmth on her body. As she looked down, she saw a men's suit jacket.
It was Matthew's jacket, which she had seen him wearing the previous night.
She held the jacket in thought, and at that moment, a noise came from nearby. Several people emerged and headed towards the deck. And among them was Henry.
