Chapter 629 Is It a Coincidence
The elevator doors remained open.
Mary stood at the entrance, caught in a quandary.
She could feel the cold, eerie gaze behind her, constantly watching.
Her palms were sweating from nervousness.
As time ticked by, the elevator started to alarm.
"Are you going up or down?"
At that moment, the man in the elevator spoke.
His tone was impatient, and his voice was extremely hoarse, unfamiliar to her.
Mary bit her lip and thought, 'Why hasn't Joshua come up yet? Even if he ran, he should have been here by now!'
But now, the man was urging her, and she couldn't continue to hesitate.
Looking at the dark corridor outside, she finally decided to stay in the elevator. At least there were surveillance cameras inside, giving her a slim chance of survival.
If she went out, who knows what would happen.
Mary took two steps back and pressed the close button.
The elevator doors slowly closed, and Mary was extremely tense.
The elevator descended smoothly, and the man behind her did nothing, but she didn't dare to let her guard down.
When the elevator reached the 4th floor, the doors suddenly opened.
Mary was startled and instinctively looked up to see two men entering. They had cold expressions and were dressed in black, clearly well-trained.
She took a small step back and stood in the corner.
Were these two men with the man beside her?
If they were, what should she do?
Mary had already gripped her phone, pressing the emergency button four times. One more press and she could successfully call for help.
In the tense and oppressive atmosphere, the elevator reached the 1st floor.
The elevator doors opened.

Once she got in and locked the doors, she finally felt a sense of relief.
Looking up, she saw the two men had already left, and the man with the hat and mask seemed to glance in her direction before leaving as well.
Mary gripped the steering wheel, her hand covered in sweat.
Just then, her phone rang, startling her. She took it out and saw it was a call from Joshua.
Joshua's voice was anxious, "Ms. Smith, I'm really sorry. The elevator I was in malfunctioned. I just got up. Where are you now?"
Mary said, "I'm already in the car."
Hearing this, Joshua asked, "Are you okay?"
Mary replied, "I'm fine."
She was gradually calming down.
Joshua being trapped was definitely intentional.
So, what role did those people in the elevator play?
If Joshua was trapped, she should have been in danger. Was it really just a coincidence?
She thought again about those two men in black. Why would they come to an office building in the middle of the night?
What were they doing?
Countless questions swirled in her mind, and Mary felt her brain was about to overthink!
Joshua's voice came through, "I'm really sorry, Ms. Smith. I promise this won't happen again."
Mary said, "It's not your fault. I'm heading home now. Look into today's events and see if you can find any clues."
Joshua replied, "Yes, Ms. Smith."

Mary stepped out of the elevator, feeling very tired. But just as she was about to open the door, the hallway lights suddenly went out.
