Chapter 496 A Man with Deep Schemes
Shirley clenched her jaw, "Just you wait!"
She slammed the phone down and let out a frustrated sigh, glaring at the now silent device.
Mary watched the whole scene with keen interest.
Once Shirley calmed down, she took a deep breath and said, "Mary, I can't stay with you. Will you be okay alone? Need me to set you up with someone? Maybe Sean?"
Mary gave her a gentle nudge, "Just go, I'll be fine."
Herman's place wasn't far from Maple Grove Manor. It took Shirley about twenty minutes to walk there.
She rang the doorbell and stared at Herman with a blank expression.
He raised an eyebrow, "Role-playing at this hour?"
Shirley cut to the chase, "Mr. Adams, what's wrong with the blueprints?"
Herman smirked and let her in.
There were slippers waiting at the door. Shirley glanced at them and gave a slight smile.
She plopped down on the sofa and eyed the fried chicken and drinks on the coffee table. She didn't hold back.
Called in for overtime in the middle of the night? She deserved this!
Herman watched her dig into the fried chicken and said, "You sure don't hold back."
Shirley replied, "Why should I? It's tasty."
With no makeup on, her natural beauty shone through, her big eyes sparkling like stars.
Herman sat in a single chair, watching her cheeks puff up like a squirrel, saying nothing.
Shirley didn't overdo it; she just had a chicken leg, mindful of late-night calories.
She wiped her mouth and fingers, "So, what's the issue?"
Herman said, "If I hadn't mentioned a problem, would you have come?"
Shirley was taken aback, then glared at him, "So you dragged me here just to watch me eat? Trying to fatten me up, huh?"
Herman chuckled silently.
Seeing her annoyed face, he asked, "Shirley, what goes on in that head of yours?"
Shirley shot back, "None of your business."
Herman said, "Alright, let's fix the blueprints."
He headed to the study.
Shirley smirked and followed him.
The study was spacious, the computer on, displaying the blueprints Shirley had submitted.
He pointed, "Isn't this the balcony? What's with this corner?"
Shirley leaned in to look and started explaining.
They were close, and Herman couldn't help but notice her delicate features, her big eyes fluttering like butterfly wings.
For some reason, his heart fluttered too, like a feather brushing back and forth.
Shirley finished explaining and looked up, "Got it?"
Herman replied, "Nope, say it again."
Shirley frowned, "I explained it so clearly; what were you thinking about?"
Herman stared at her, "Guess."
Shirley rolled her eyes, "You're nuts!"
She turned to leave.
Herman called after her, "Aren't you going to explain it again?"
Shirley replied, "Your mind's not on this. Explaining it is pointless. If you don't like the design, I'll change it."
Herman followed her, "Then tell me, what is my mind on?"
