Chapter 725 Submission of Resignation
"Mary, the law gives people a chance to turn over a new leaf, but you won't. How can you be stricter than the law?"
Matthew looked at her. In the dim car, the streetlights flickered in, but they couldn't illuminate his eyes.
Mary pressed her lips together and said, "But you made me sad. I'm a person with a small heart. I won't touch things that hurt me again."
The car fell silent.
For a moment, Matthew wished he could go back in time and slap himself. How could he have been so foolish?
He closed his eyes.
There was no medicine for regret in this world.
Saying these things now was meaningless.
Maple Grove Manor.
Mary parked the car and walked away without a word.
Matthew silently followed her, entering the elevator together.
The conversation in the car left both of them in silence.
Mary suddenly realized that some things weren't so hard to say. Once said, her heart felt a bit lighter.
She looked up at the elevator's reflective surface, catching sight of his sharp, handsome face. "Matthew, let's part ways amicably. Maybe you just can't accept that I used to love you but don't anymore. It's better to wake up now. In the future, whether it's weddings or funerals, we won't interfere with each other."
Matthew's thin lips curved into a faint smile. "You seem to know me well."
"Isn't that right?" Mary asked.
"No," Matthew denied directly.
He looked steadily at Mary. "At first, I did question it. How could someone's love just disappear like that? But I only struggled with it for a few days. I don't want a divorce simply because I don't want a divorce. I don't want you to leave me."
Matthew's gaze was so direct and intense that even though he was looking at her reflection in the elevator, Mary could feel the emotion in it.
Mary's heart felt a sudden pang.
It hurt.
She looked away and said, "But I don't want to continue."
Matthew replied, "That's okay. I'll wait for you. I'm sure I'll live a long time, and one day you'll forgive me."
Back home.
The house was empty. Mary stood at the door for a moment before going to wash up.
The next day.
Mary arrived at the studio and knocked on the office door.
"Come in." Maria's lazy voice came through.
Mary pushed the door open and walked in, her delicate and gentle face serious. "Ms. Diaz, I'm here to submit my resignation."
"What?" Maria stood up abruptly. "Why are you resigning?"
Mary said, "I want to change my lifestyle, maybe open a restaurant or something."
Maria was shocked and she didn't know what to do.
But she couldn't let Mary go!
Maria pulled her to sit on the couch and asked, "Mary, you can't leave now. You see, my studio is just starting out. I really need a talented designer like you. If you leave, the studio might not last long."
Mary smiled and said, "Sean is very capable. He can help you a lot. You can also recruit from universities. Many students are very talented and suitable for training."
Maria asked, "So you're determined to leave, right?"
Mary nodded. "I'm sorry for telling you this now. I'll stay until you find a new designer."
