Chapter 688 Exchange Conditions
Matthew looked at her with a cool expression. "Like what?"
Linda felt a twinge of annoyance. Matthew had never shown her the respect she deserved as an elder, but the Montagu family's dynamics had shifted. From now on, Matthew would be the one calling the shots.
Trying to keep her temper in check, she spoke softly, "I am the lady of the Montagu family. Naturally, I should maintain the dignity that comes with that title. Everything about my status must remain unchanged."
Matthew sneered. "No way."
Linda frowned. "Matthew, what do you mean by that? I've never treated you unfairly. Are you planning to bite the hand that fed you?"
Matthew's eyes turned icy. "Do you even believe the words coming out of your mouth?"
Linda was momentarily at a loss for words but then said, "I can trade you some information."
"Let's hear it."
She continued, "Samuel is alive. Your father has already tracked him down. If you hadn't made your move, Samuel would be the one inheriting the Montagu Group now."
Matthew's handsome face remained unchanged. "Is that so? This information doesn't interest me."
Linda stared at him intently. "Aren't you worried at all? If he returns to the Montagu family, he will definitely threaten your position. Now that you know his whereabouts, you can act first, seize the opportunity, and eliminate this threat."
Matthew replied indifferently, "It's a good idea. I'll consider your suggestion."
Linda breathed a slight sigh of relief and then revealed Samuel's whereabouts.
He was now a mechanic and was working at a repair shop on the outskirts of Lindwood City.
Matthew immediately relayed the information to Maria, instructing her to investigate.
Maria wanted to resist, but she had to follow Matthew's orders.
After a thorough investigation, she found nothing.
On the phone, Maria said, "Mr. Montagu, could it be that you've been deceived?"
Matthew's eyes were cold. "For the sake of her own wealth and status, she wouldn't dare lie."
Maria was taken aback. "But I checked all the records from the past six months and found no trace of this person."
Matthew lowered his gaze. "I understand."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Was Samuel really alive or not?
Mary returned to Maple Grove Manor, only to find an unconscious man at her doorstep.
Her face immediately showed signs of caution, and she sent a message to Shirley.
Shirley opened the door and was also taken aback when she saw the unconscious man. "I didn't hear anything."
Mary said, "Let's go inside first."
Fortunately, the man on the ground remained motionless even after they closed the door.
Shirley asked, "What should we do now?"
Mary replied, "Call the police. This person is a stranger. Why would he pass out here?"
Shirley nodded. "Sounds good."
Mary called the police, and they arrived quickly. The man never woke up and was taken to the hospital by the police.
Shirley patted her chest. "That was scary. Who wants to find a random person lying at their doorstep?"
Mary said quietly, "He might not have been alive."
Shirley snapped, "Shut up."
The incident turned out to be just a minor episode. Later, the police came by to explain the situation.
The man was an elevator repairman. The elevator had malfunctioned that day, and he came to fix it. He passed out due to low blood sugar. He wasn't a bad person.
