Chapter 307 Does She Like Him?

Herman just froze, like a deer in headlights. He heard something slicing through the air, and when he spun around, there was Shirley, diving in front of him to take the bullet!

Totally mind-blowing!

He grabbed her, staring at the blood gushing from her shoulder and her face going ghostly pale. "Why?" he stammered, totally baffled.

Shirley was in so much pain she couldn't even get a word out.

She barely caught his voice and really wanted to smack him!

Shirley thought, 'What the heck is Herman doing? Why isn't he rushing me to the hospital? Does he want me to croak right here? That jerk!'

"Mr. Adams, you okay?"

The bodyguards, who had been lurking in the shadows, finally showed up, nabbed the shooter, and then checked in.

Herman snapped back, his face darkening. "Why the hell are you so late? What were you doing?"

The bodyguard hung his head. "Sorry, Mr. Adams, it happened so fast, we were caught off guard!"

Overwhelmed and unable to describe his emotions, Herman scooped Shirley up and bolted outside.

"Shirley, hang in there. I'm getting you to the hospital."

Shirley was in agony, but hearing that, she finally felt a bit of relief.

She thought, 'Finally, he's taking me to the hospital; I might not die after all.'

Shirley's consciousness faded into darkness. She thought she heard a shaky voice calling her name.

The emergency room light stayed on.

Herman stood at the door, still covered in Shirley's blood. It all felt so surreal.

Herman mused, 'The Shirley I've always messed with actually took a bullet for me! Why would she do that? Doesn't she hate my guts? Why would she take a bullet for me? I just don't get it.'

Just then, the ER light went off, and the door swung open. Nurses and doctors wheeled out a hospital bed.

Herman, all flustered, asked, "How is she?"

The doctor replied, "The bullet's out, and it didn't hit anything vital. She just needs time to heal."

Hearing that, Herman let out a huge sigh of relief.

He had already sorted out the hospital paperwork. Back in the ward, looking at the still-unconscious Shirley, Herman pursed his lips.

He pulled out his phone and started searching, but all he got were ads and weird links.

Frustrated, he hopped on Reddit and posted a question.

[Question: A guy always bullies a girl, but the girl took a bullet for him. Why?]

Replies started flooding in instantly.

[How does he bully her? Is it in bed?]

[Bro, either you're dreaming, or the girl has a masochistic streak. The more you bully her, the more she digs you. She'd rather die than see you hurt.]

[Stop dreaming, wake up!]

[Maybe she really likes you.]

Herman's eyes stuck on the last reply, his brows knitting together.

He thought, 'Shirley likes me? She couldn't stand to see me get hurt, so she took the bullet for me? Could she really be into that? I've always been a jerk to her. Even so, she still likes me?'

Herman couldn't help but touch his face, suddenly feeling a surge of confidence.

He thought, 'It's totally normal for her to have a crush on me.'

He put away his phone, his gaze falling on the unconscious Shirley's face, and sighed helplessly.

"What a shame. I'm never gonna be able to return you feelings."
