Chapter 25: Maybe We Don't Have to Get Divorced?

What a bastard! Matthew was taking Laura's side during the day, butat night, he came for Mary.

After the deed, Mary turned her back to Matthew, "I want another ten million dollars for the divorce."

Matthew's breath deepened, but he remained silent. Mary closed her eyes, her long eyelashes trembling slightly. The closer she got to Matthew, the deeper the wound in her heart became. Her heart was so cold and painful that she couldn't help but curl up.

At that moment, a strong arm wrapped around Mary's waist. Mary's body stiffened, "What are you doing?"

Matthew said, "I feel like I'm suffering a loss."

So what? Again? Mary gritted her teeth. "Matthew, if I had known you were so awful, I would have left you starving on the street."

She cried out in pain as she spoke.

Was he a biting dog? He actually bit it on her shoulder!

Mary struggled, and the next second, the bitten area felt wet.Matthew was gently soothing it.

"There is no cure for regret in this world," hesaid in a steady voice. "And no 'ifs.'"

Mary was furious, "So, please let go. I've already agreed to the divorce. What do you mean by this now?"

She sneered, "Matthew, are you trying to be responsible for Laura and still not divorce me?"

Matthew said, "Back to sleep."

But Mary was no longer sleepy. She turned around and looked at his face in the dark, "Answer me!"

Matthew's low voice echoed, "It seems you're not tired yet."

Mary cursed in her heart but dared to say no more. Matthew really had that ruthless streak, and she was afraid she wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. Soon, the sound of even breathing came from beside her, and Matthew turned to Mary. In the darkness, he couldn't see her face clearly, but her features had relaxed and softened, tinged with a bit of tranquility. He knew that.

In the past, she would nestle in Matthew's arms and sleep soundly. But now, there was no one there. After a long time, there was a light rustling of the covers, and Matthew pulled Mary into his embrace. At that moment, his unsettled heart seemed to be where it should be.

The next morning, Mary woke up in Matthew's arms. For a moment, she was in a daze as if nothing had happened. That was still her Matthew. He was still asleep, his handsome face deep and charming, with long eyelashes. Mary used to marvel at how a man could have eyelashes longer than a girl's. Instinctively, Mary reached out for Matthew's eyelashes. Suddenly, her wrist tightened, and Matthew abruptly opened his eyes, flipping over to pin her beneath him. "Mary, good morning."

Mary didn't struggle but looked at him calmly.

Matthew slowly leaned down, but just as his lips were about to touch Mary's, he heard, "Maybe we don't have to get divorced?"
