Chapter 716 Cannot Drag Mary into a Life of Turmoil

Sean's face showed a hint of helplessness. "My mom's joking around, and now you're joining in too?"

Mary raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you younger than me?"

Sean looked at her seriously. "Only by a year."

Mary replied, "Still younger."

Sean was speechless, stopping arguing, as long as she was happy.

Isabella watched them with a smile, but there was a faint sadness in her eyes.

However, when Mary came and chatted with Isabella for a while, Isabella's mood visibly improved.

Mary only left when Isabella got tired.

Outside the hospital room, Sean gazed at her. "Mary, thanks a lot."

Mary said, "No need to be so formal. Mrs. Huxley's health is what matters. You can tell your boss you don't always need to be at the studio. You can work on your designs here at the hospital."

"Okay, I will."

Sean nodded and escorted her to the elevator.

"You should go back. I'm heading out," Mary said to him.

Sean looked at her deeply. "Goodbye."

"Goodbye."

The elevator doors slowly closed, cutting off Sean's gaze, and the emotions in his eyes almost spilled out.

He closed his eyes for a moment, then returned to the hospital room. He saw that Isabella, who had been resting with her eyes closed, opened her eyes when she heard him come in.

"Mom, why aren't you sleeping?" Sean asked, sitting by the bed.

Isabella gazed at him. "Sean, you like Ms. Smith, don't you?"

Sean lowered his eyes slightly. "There's nothing I can hide from you."

Isabella sighed softly. "I like her too, but Sean, we're not good enough for her."

Sean didn't speak for a moment.

"With my health and our family's situation, I believe you can make her happy, but she could have an even happier life, couldn't she?"

Isabella could see Sean's thoughts clearly.

He wanted her to say something to make Mary stay with him.

Because Mary was kind-hearted, she would agree even if it was just an act.

But precisely because she was so kind, they shouldn't do that.

Isabella voiced her concerns and sighed softly. "Sean, when I'm gone, I won't interfere with your life too much, but for now, we can't drag Mary into a life of turmoil."

Sean's throat felt dry. "Mom, please stop talking and rest."

Isabella looked at him. "Don't do anything foolish, understand?"

"Okay, I understand." Sean quickly responded.

He felt a bit disgusted with himself. Thankfully, his mother was clear-headed and hadn't let things reach an irreversible point.

Mary had been spending a lot of time at the hospital, and her overall state wasn't great.

She felt a constant sense of oppression, like the cloudy skies of recent days, making it hard to relax.

The people at the villa called Mary again, asking when she would come for the inspection.

Mary exhaled deeply and called Matthew.

"What's up?"

After three rings, the call was answered.

Matthew's deep, magnetic voice came through, revealing no emotion.

"When are you going to inspect the villa?" Mary asked.

Matthew replied, "I'm on a business trip."

Mary frowned. "When will you be back?"

Matthew said, "In three days."

Mary responded, "Okay, I'll contact you in three days."

She was about to hang up.

"Mary."
